All parents to teenagers know the heartaches and joys that come as a result of guiding
their teens on the challenges that they face as they grow emotionally and physically on their
way to maturity. Being a teenager is a very difficult task but the parenting one is more
complex one. This is considered to be the time for parents to help the teenagers learn how to
take responsibility for their deeds and learn that those teenage years are all enclosed in the
teenager establishing own identity and self-rule.
Even if most parents tend to handle these transitions successfully, for other parents
these transitions may cause an increment of normal disagreements to high-level adolescentparent conflict. Such high-level adolescent-parent conflicts affect the safety of parents and
the adolescent’s well-being negatively and decrease the teenager’s life satisfaction. (Smetana
et al., 2006). There are factors that may lead to these high-level adolescent-parent conflicts,
some of which may be considered to be individual and others environmental.
The factors considered Individual relates to the detailed character of adolescents,
embrace changes in their physical, emotional, cognitive, social and self-definitional
development, not forgetting teenager’s gender and age. Environmental factors deal with the
influence that teenagers are exposed to and also relate to the family, ethnic and cultural
environments lived by the teens.
The physical maturity and puberty not only shape the physical outlook of a teen but
also influence the way the teens and their parents think about the unexpected change in
