Can a society in which some citizens work for others as servants be a just one?
Yes, a country whose citizens work for others as servants can be a just one. This is based
on the idea of the common good; the common good refers to all the benefits accrued by society
as a whole, regardless of the people's socio-economic status. It may include aspects like social
linkages, shared places, and intrinsically social places. The shared good is an imperative aspect
in political philosophy, whereby it depicts the public and private aspects of the people in a given
society. Similarly, the common good may also refer to the benefits accrued by the community if
business people from a given community recruit servants from their society.
On the contrary, a society can be 'private'; this means that members of the society solely
focus on personal projects that will benefit them and the immediate family and friends (Roemer,
1998). A private society is not just, and this behavior pursuing projects for personal benefits may
result in slow or no development. A private society lacks economic development.
