The project is to do the fowling:
For a Windows Server:
•
•
•
Install and configure either Windows Server 2003 or 2007
o Configure DNS
o Configure DHCP
Install and configure Active Directory and add a few user accounts
Install and configure Exchange Server and FTP
So I already did this and took screen shots by
order
But I need you to paraphrase and edit the
fowling from the other project that I will give it
to:
For Windows:
• Describe the Windows Server installation and the steps to setup DNS, DHCP, and FTP
server packages
• Describe the Active Directory installation and configuration and show how to add
different types of accounts
• Describe the installation and configuration for Exchange Server with user account
creation.

Making/Preparing Users
To prepare Users for our Windows 2008 R2 Server one must access the start menu and under
“Administrative Tools” choose “Active Directory Users and Computers. On the new screen
choose to expand “test.local” and click “Users”. From this screen you can right click the user
area and choose to add user, allowing for password set-up during the process. When password is
set, click “Next” taking you to a more option-heavy page where you can choose the “Add to” tab
and choose to “Add” users to certain custom made groups.

Difficulties:
We had issues with setting up the IP address in a virtual machine. The machine did not take the
first address, and the services did not work until a different IP address was chosen.
We could not download the exchange install file within the virtual machine. We had to
download it on the host machine and drag it into the virtual machine.

1. Initial Configuration Tasks Screen
We loaded the ISO which went through the initial boot cycle, landing us at the desktop of our
newly formed Virtual Windows 2008R2 Server. Upon load up, this opening screen is presented
Group 4 (Windows 2008R2) ITEC 325 | 2
to us, allowing a cavalcade of options for preparing the machine for use. While these links can be
useful, none of them are found here and here only, so if you are the type that likes to do things
without a helping hand (which doesn’t make too much sense if you are reading a guide), you
may click the checkbox in the lower left corner to stop this screen from appearing upon further
sessions.
2. Set the Time Zone
The first, and one of the simplest, steps is to set the timezone of the system. This can be done
through the before-mentioned Initial Configuration Tasks screen, by clicking the box we have
highlighted below. From there you may change the time and date by clicking the “Change time
and Date” button and following the prompts given, and can change the time zone by clicking the

“Change time zone” button. Click OK to finalize the change.

3. Setting Server Name
The next step is to choose a computer/server name. This is done via a link on the Initial
Configuration Tasks screen as well, titled “Provide computer name and domain”. You then hit
the “Change button” and type in your new Server name, you may also statically change your
domain in the same way on this screen. This operation will require a restart upon completion.
Assuming you did not check the “do not show this window at login” box on the Initial
Configuration Tasks page, it will reopen upon restart.

4. Adding a static IP address
Many of the following tasks, including adding a static IP, require opening the Server Manager,
so do that at this time. To add the static IP address you must choose “View Network
Connections” out of the selections on the right side of the Server Manager home screen. From
this point right-click “Local Area Connection” and choose “Properties”. When the options are
presented to you for moving forward, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) and double click.
This screen allows for changing on IP, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway. Check the “Use the
following IP address to statically enter the information corresponding to your set-up, then click
OK to finalize.

Installing Active Directory
Once the Role Wizard brings you to active directory you want to add the .NET framework as
shown below through “Add Requested Features” under “Active Directory Domain Services”.
Following this just continue following the “Next” prompts on the wizard until it tells you which
roles were installed succesfully, where you can then “Close” out the wizard.

Installing Exchange
To install and prepare Exchange server for use you must follow a multitude of steps, many of
which covered earlier in this documentation.
1. Configure server name for exchange
This can be done by accessing Control Panel, then choosing System properties, as well as via a
link on the Initial Configuration Tasks screen titled “Provide computer name and domain”, as
previously stated. You then hit the “Change button” and type in your new Server name
System control panel, in this case you are changing the name to “exchange” and changing to
domain to sandbox.itsupportme.com
2. Open Server Manager
Open roles wizard as shown earlier, make sure you have added .NET Framework 3.5.1, RPC
over HTTP Proxy, HTTP Activation, and AD DS Snap-ins and command-line tools.
Group 4 (Windows 2008R2) ITEC 325 | 45
3. Adding further roles
Add ASP.NET in select Roles services, Windows Authentication, Digest Authentication,
Content Compression, and all of IIS 6 management, then Install the roles.
4. Change startup type
Go to Administrative tools, then Services and find Net.TCPPortSharing. Inside
Net.TCPPortSharing, find the startup type, which is disabled by default, change it to automatic.
5. Filter pack
Go to www.microsoft.com/download/en/details/aspx?id=10762 to find the filter pack required
for Exchange. Download filter pack and install Microsoft filter pack 2.0 and follow the prompts
to prepare it, just hitting “Next” twice to continue. (Not pictured)
6. Start Microsoft exchange server 2010 setup
Start the setup for Exchange server, follow prompts as listed. Hit “Next”, then “Accept”, say
“Yes to error reporting, then “Next”. You the choose “Typical Exchange Install” then “Next”,
enter Organization name “Sandbox”, say no to “Client Settings”, then hit “Next” once more.
Choose “Internet-facing” option “exchange.sandbox.itsupportme.com” then “Next” twice. Wait
