Abstract
Management Information Systems have made it easy to run business through monitoring
managerial performance and other aspects in an organization. They act as a guide in managing
while also showing the progress that a company has made. Storing of large amounts of data
ensures that managers can access it at any time and evaluate their performance or that of the
others. The measures were put in place to ensure that there was a technological system that could
help in management and do it effectively. Businesses adopt different types of management
information systems that suit their business models. The selection might be based on the size,
goals and the available systems and manpower and their efficiency in delivering the same
service. In this text, I will discuss Management Information Systems in two organizations; do a
comparison of the effects and consequences of information technology in organizations.
Management Information Systems Comparison
Modernization of office functions through technology has increased and become popular
over the past few years. One of the systems adopted for ease of carrying out tasks is the
Management Information System (MIS). The database deals with financial information which is
programmed and organized to provide information for each and every level of management in an
organization. Some of the companies that have openly adopted the system might include WalMart and retailing giant Amazon. Wal-Mart, on the one hand, uses Management Reporting
Systems. It allows managers to track their performance and ensure that they are on track to
achieve all set goals (Norton, 2017). Wal-Mart operates in over one hundred countries and uses
the system to backtrack its managerial achievements and goals that they should meet.
