Fascism is defined as a political system that is based on the extreme powers of the leader,
the control of the state and the rebuking of any arguments against the leader or the political
system. To modern day populations, fascism is seen as any authoritarian act that seeks to take
control away from the people and quell dissenting voices (Sorlucco, 2006). The objective of
fascism is to maintain firm control of the social, political and economic mechanisms for personal
goals as well as advance the collective needs of a few members of the society. The basic
elements of fascist regimes and movements are outlined by Dr. Lawrence Britt who outline 14
attributes that define fascism (Griffin, & Feldman, 2004). These elements include disregard for
human rights as well as continuing nationalism in all its forms from the use of anthems, song or
mottos to symbolize nationalism. The rallying of the public against enemies within the country
who defy the government is another trait of fascism. Supremacy of the military is evidenced in
