Introduction.
Literally, Media Literacy is the knowledge of how to “read” messages and general content
from the media that includes magazines, TV, advertisements, movies, popular music, general
computer knowledge, video games, and the Internet. Although, its general definition states that it
is the ability to access, evaluate, analyze, and communicate messages in a wide variety of forms.
It’s quite essential for the general public to understand how the media content manipulates and
influences people, the convenient way, and method of interpreting media messages and also how
it influences our critical thinking. The media influence shouldn't, at any moment, be
underestimated. The teens and youth within the adolescent stage spend more time watching and
perusing media content than the time they spend with their teachers at school. This is also catalyzed
with the frequency these kids have of spending more time while surfing the internet and this has
catapulted the effects that media possess to the general public, teenagers being the most affected
population group (cooperation, 2017).
In democratic societies, the increasing demand for active citizenship is answered by
equipping the general public with media literacy education. Mostly, the development of programs
that empower and enlighten teenagers to deal with the vast and quick developing effects that the
media possess. These growing programs have bridged the digital divide by creating an elite society
which in turn increases chances of improving a region's general economic status. From general
research results, it’s shown that to mediate relationships between the teenagers’ experience of the
opportunities and risks offered online through media literacy, and the demographic variables, the
grandness of online skills is evident insofar as online access, skills, and use work towards this
