Hydrogen gas can be prepared by reaction of zinc metal with aqueous HCl:

Zn(s) + 2HCl(aq) --> ZnCl2(aq) + H2(g)

How many liters of H2 would be formed at 516mm Hg and 17*C if 25.0g zinc was allowed to react?

Please note that 25 grams of Zn are 25/65.4 = 0.382 mol of Zn, so we have 0.382 mole og H2(g). Now I apply the equation of gases as below:

P*V = n*R*T

where P is the pressure, namely P= 516/760 = 0.68 atm, N is the number of moles, namely n= 0.382, V is the volume in liters, T is the Kelvin temperature, namely 273+17= 290 °K and R is the gas constant, namely R = 0.08206 Liters*atm/(mol*kelvin). Sowe have:

V = (n*R*T)/P = (0.382* 0.08206*290) / 0.68= 13.37 liters
