One of the most common examples of slope is used defined as the cost to produce a unit of a given product. It is important for manufacturers to know how much producing individual products is going to cost the company they work for. In this case increaing the slope or the cost of production would cut into the companies profits or result in an increase in cost for the consumer. Decreasing the slope would be benifical then the cost to produce something would be at the lowest.
