How Zoroastrianism influenced Judaism and Christianity
Introduction
Zarathushtrianism or Zoroastrianism happens to be one among the oldest monotheistic
faiths. It is a religion that was first taught amongst the Asian Steppes nomads and became the 3great Persian empires (Sassanian, Achaemenian, and Arsacid)’s state religion. The Persian
empire did extend from India right to the Mediterranean and due to its haughty character, it
remarkably influenced other world faiths including the Northern Buddhism to the east, Later
Judaism to the west, Islam and Christianity. Greek authors report that Prophet Asho Zarathushtra
(Zoroaster)’s date varies from the 1700 BC to 4000 BC. However, such a date is not a significant
as the prophet’s teachings. According to historians, his teachings are possibly the oldest as well
as man’s most accurate code of ethics. Many refer to the prophet as the uncovered or discover of
individual morals.
Believing in an eternal God who is all wise a well as all powerful (Ahura Mazda) laid all
religious faiths’ foundation. Ahura means the “creator” while Mazda means “infinite wisdom.”
Zarathustra was the first religion as well to educate people about doctrines of equality of males
and females, eternal soul, freedom of choice (ability to choose between evil and good), heaven
and Hell, individual judgment, the resurrection, the final judgment, as well as the coming of the

other faiths (Mehta).
Cyrus, the great Persian emperor liberated the Jews from their Babylonia captivity back
in around 550 B.C. however, he did not make any attempts to force his Zoroastrianism religion
on them. Instead, gave the Jews the mandate to keep their faith and helped the rebuild the temple
of Solomon. Cyrus’ inscriptions are evidence that he promoted good life based on individuals’
faiths. Thereafter, the Jews admired the Persians’ warm feelings something that resulted in the
Jews becoming more open to the influence of Zoroastrianism. The Jews had been in captive for
long and after they were free, not all of them were willing to go home for some had become
established within Mesopotamia, having settled there and taking part in politics as well as
business. So, some decided to remain in this new home, which whose rule a consolidated by the
Persian Empire. Certain Jews rose even to considerably high service positions within the
imperial court. At the end of the exile, Jews living within the Persian Empire came into the first
important contract with Iranian Cultures (Shapero). It was as well after the exile that the Jewish
bible changed. Many things could have led to the changes seen in Jews during this period. First
of all, they live in the midst of the Persian, who they admired. They also had no temple as the
Babylonians had destroyed it during the raid.
The Jews were closely linked to the Persian Zoroastrianism conquerors both culturally
and socially. They had never had a friend treat them nicely since the day of the Egyptian
pharaohs. Much treatment by the Persians resulted in the Jews feeling bound to study the
conqueror’s laws, institutions, and faith. The argument I thus for a great as well as completely
