Two alternatives to replacing oil as our primary means of energy are: 1. Natural gas 2 Solar energy
Government plays an important role in ensuring a transition to these alternatives. Consider natural gas. These days some automobile manufacturers have started offering natural gas driven automobiles. This is partly due to government regulations on strict emission standards. These regulations force auto manufacturers to produce gas driven cars. Government can also provide tax incentives to encourage car manufacturers to produce these type of cars to replace oil. Until recently, natural gas was not available in abundance but now- a -days due to fracking the situation has changed and gas production has increased very significantly.
Solar energy is another vital source to replace oil usage. In this case also Government can provide tax incentives for solar panel manufacturers and citizens to install solar power equipment. However, it has the drawback that this alternative is expensive. In addition, solar power can only work in areas with plenty of sunshine.
Please note that you can obtain required two sources from the Internet easily.
