1. The Lake Isle of Innisfree
The Lake of Innisfree is a poem describing the author’s feelings towards Innisfree. The
poet lets it be known that he will go to Innisfree and that he will build for himself a cabin made
of “clay and wattles.” Furthermore, the poet also mentions that he will have nine bean rows and a
beehive, and also live alone in the glade loud with the sound of bees (Yeats & Sterling,
1908).The poet clearly refers to a place of tranquility that he wishes to go to and also refers to the
quiet scenic life that he misses and would want to go to. The author has a mental image of the
quiet life and reveals how he wishes to live the quiet life. The poet also explains the qualities of
the life that he wants to lead as well as the fantasy that he has concerning this
life.Furthermore,the poet also implies that the truth of the “deep heart’s core” are essential to life
and therefore this is a preoccupation is the central aspect of this particular poem. The poet,
therefore, reveals the struggle to remain faithful to what he believes is the thing dearest to him.
2. Channel Firing
Channel Firing by Thomas Hardy is a masterpiece and it is written from the perspective
of the dead and it reveals one who is awoken from death by the sounds of gun exchange at the
English Channel. The noise is apparently from the gunning practice of the navy at that particular
location. The speaker in this poem is a member of the dead who is addressing the living, and they
describe the noise of the gunfire and explain how it disturbs the dead. It is mentioned that the
noise is so loud that the dead though that judgment day had arrived (Hardy, 2006).God himself
speaks to the dead and assures them that judgment day has not yet come. The dead are told that it
is the sound of gunfire as the army men practice and prepare to go to war. God, in fact, assures

the dead that they are lucky that it is not judgment day as many of them would be facing
punishment in hell. The dead are summoned by God to go back to sleep as the dead lament that
the living are still at war.
3. Inner Warrior
Inner Warrior is a poem by William Yeats and it refers to an Irish immature revolutionary
plan that aimed at overthrowing the British reign in Ireland. Over a thousand men gathered to
overthrow the government but 300 of them were killed in these efforts and two hundred were
taken as captives. The Irish ship importing weapons was also seized in the activities that
transpired as well. The poet had advised the soldiers not to take such a drastic step and that
furthermore expressed disappointment at the foolish action that these soldiers took (Bushrui &
Prentki,1990).The poem furthermore criticizes the politicians who were involved in the
revolution. Yeats is impressed by the heroic deeds of the rebels as they struggled to overthrow
the government. The poet pays tribute to these rebels as well as their efforts to sacrifice their
lives and helped usher the nation into a new era. The poem symbolized the future endeavors of
Ireland as they worked towards liberation.
4. The Love Song
The poem “The Love Song” by Alfred Prufrock is an examination of the tortured psyche
of the typical modern man who is overeducated, eloquent as well as neurotic and emotionally
