Description

Please do not plagiarize. My instructor will run this through Turnitin ( please provide a turnitin report)

The paper is already written (see attached). I just would like a revision of it.

Your final writing project for this course is a 9-10 page formal business report in which you will:

  • specify a real organization you have worked in/with
  • identify a real problem or situation within that organization that needs addressing
  • conduct research to help you analyze the problem and weigh possible solutions
  • describe the problem and recommend a course of action in a formal report that
  • targets a specific decision-making audience within the organization

How do I choose an organization?

You get to choose your problem and organizational context you wish to write in, but the important thing is that you choose an organization you actually are familiar with as a participant, as this tends to make better reports. You don’t want to just choose a random company like Nike if you have never worked for them, as you will not be able to really identify an actual problem within the company, or be able to suggest solutions that would actually work in that particular organization. You also wouldn’t have any ideas about how to persuade your audience, as you likely would not know who your report would be directed to or what their needs, expectations, beliefs, or values are.

You can choose organizations you currently work for or have worked for in the past, but you might also consider other organizations that you are involved with, for example, non-profit or religious organizations, military branches, student groups, parent groups, clubs, or hobbyist organizations. Sometimes students have not had jobs before – that is ok, as you have certainly been part of some organization in your lifetime; in fact, you are part of an organization right now by participating in this class! Park University does count as an organization you are part of and can propose solutions to.

What makes a good problem?

This is an important question to really think about as not every problem makes for a good report. One thing to consider is whether a formal report would even be appropriate or necessary to solve the problem you have identified. Some problems are fairly easily solved, have obvious solutions, or do not require research to find a solution. You want to choose problem that is

  • Researchable
  • Not yes/no or too obviously solved
  • A real problem that affects actual people, or that affect the organization’s productivity, effectiveness, morale, or profitability

A good report will:

  • Follow the guidelines and format on report writing
  • Use effective organization and document design
  • Use sources effectively to construct and support your position
  • Use effective and grammatically correct business style
  • Use you-attitude and positive emphasis
  • Use at least one visual you composed yourself, effectively
  • Be revised and edited, with the assistance of your peers and instructor
  • Cite sources appropriately in the text and in the reference page using a citation style appropriate to your field of study (MLA or APA style; other styles as permitted by your instructor).

Requirements that your report must have each of these parts

  • Cover Page
  • Table of Contents
  • Executive summary
  • Introduction
  • Body (with headings/subheadings as you choose)
  • Conclusion and Recommendations
  • Bibliography

Challenged Athletes Foundation Business Plan name school teacher i George Foster 123 Sesame Street Anytown, XX. 12345 May 7, 2017 Mr. Jim MacLaren CAF 9591 Waples Street San Diego, CA Dear Jim MacLaren, Attached is the report about the requested analysis of Challenges Athlete Foundation (CAF). The analysis was done based on data obtained from the CAF Fiscal Report of 2016. The data was readily available and it was found to be highly reliable to establish any problems from which viable solutions could be recommended. The analysis established that CAF is doing quite well. It is helping the lives of many physically challenged Americans and the number is always rising. The number of grants is also increasing making it possible to meet the increasing needs. In addition, the utilization of donated funds and grants is excellent. However, the analysis depicts some few problems. One of the major problems is the lack of gender equality in the number of grant recipients. Most of the beneficiaries are male participants with a huge disparity considering 30% and 70% female and male recipients respectively. Another problem is that some events are not popular and grants assigned to such sports are considerably useless unless the popularity of such sports is increased. The other problem is that the grants only come in the form of some few types of equipment. Currently, wheelchairs dominate the grants CAF receives. With the analysis, conclusion, and the recommended solution in the report, you can easily implement the recommended solutions to the current problems. It is with great hope that this analysis and the suggested solution would create a significant positive impact on the future of CAF. Keep up the good humanitarian work. The CAF was established 1997 implying that it is about two decades old since its establishment. The core functions of the foundation include assisting, supporting, and providing various opportunities to the people facing physical challenges. Through the assistance and support of CAF, these people are able to lead quite active lifestyles as well as be in the position to compete in athletic events. This business plan covers the foundations current status including its strong aspects, issues, and possible opportunities in order to draw meaningful conclusion and recommendations. It is currently successful but has a few problems such as gender equality in terms of grant offered to individuals, grants received, and poor popularity of most of its sports events. The stated recommendations are: i. Focusing on balancing the number of various grants received ii. Encouraging more females to apply for grants to ensure gender balance iii. Allocating more resources on the least popular sports to make them more attractive iv. Encouraging more participants from this group and also advertise for more partnerships with well-wishers v. Pushing for government support on the challenged athletes in competition and life through increased grants to foundations like CAF vi. Encouraging donations and grants in the form of the most ignored equipment or purchase more of such equipment using the donated funds v Introduction The Challenged Athletes Foundation is based in the sense that people’s involvement in sporting events improves their self-esteem, enhance their quality of life, and encourage their independence. CAF achieves all these through the provision of funds for competition, training, rehabilitation, as well as for the purchase of special equipment for use by the physically challenged athletes (Challenged Athletes Foundation, 2016). The organization operates under four key programs, which include Project N Ex. T., Catch a Rising Star, Access for Athletes, and Operation Rebound. All the four programs are executed with the primary aim of enhancing the life of the physically challenged athletes. However, they programs vary slightly in terms of their target groups. Nevertheless, the flagship program for the foundation is the Access for Athletes Program. Purpose and Scope Challenged Athletes Foundation has been highly helpful to the physically challenged athletes in various ways. It has been supporting them financially, socially, and emotionally. However, the foundation has not yet maximized its capacity to support this category of athletes. The purpose of this business plan is to find ways through which CAF can broaden the support it offers to the physically challenged athletes. The plan covers the entire organization in terms of its capacities and other organizations that can support CAF meet the demand of the increasing population of physically challenged athletes. This is done with CAF mission, which is “To provide opportunities and support to people with physical challenges, so they can pursue active 1 lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics” (Challenged Athletes Foundation, 2016, pp.5). Assumptions The main assumption in this case is that the information available from the CAF website and other online sources are accurate. It is also assumed that CAF receives adequate funds to run its programs. Further, it is assumed that the current information reflects the organization’s position. Methods The data and information used in this business plan/ report is entirely secondary data. As such, secondary research was contacted to run the analysis (Prescott, 2008). Data and information about the foundation was obtained from CAF website, online articles, online financial reports like Yahoo Finance, and various websites. Limitations The data and information gathered is limited to secondary data. Such information only reflects the historic image of the organization rather than the prevailing situation (Prescott, 2008). Criteria The focus towards understanding the foundation’s performance and position was based on its latest annual report, which the fiscal year 2016 (Challengedathletes.org, 2017). Various factors were considered in this regard. The factors include the types of grants, grants approval by year, adaptive sport equipment expenses, distribution by age, grants by sport, as well as contributors and donations in 2016. 2 Key Statistics and Analysis Types of Grants During the fiscal year 2016, expenses pertaining competition and training accounted for 69% of the total grants received. The table below shows the various types of competitions and the number of grants that each competition took. Competition Number Of Grants Beep Baseball 113 Blind Bowling 31 Cycling / Handcycling 32 Golf Events 4 Marathons 13 Other Sports 115 Power Soccer 24 Shooting 6 Surfing 30 Track and Field 48 Triathlons 56 Water Sports 36 Wheelchair Basketball 85 Wheelchair Rugby 27 Wheelchair Tennis 21 3 Coaching and training 220 Source: CAF 2016 Fiscal Report The largest number of grants went to sport coaching and training. The distribution of the grants is presented graphically as follows: Figure 1: Distribution of grants in 2016. Golf events competition took the least amount of grants while coaching and training tool the most grants. The distribution was even across the various competition events. Grants approval by year Grants given to CAF seem to be increasing every year. In 2014, the annual grants amounted to 1,469 grants. In 2015, 1,709 grants were recorded. In 2016, a total of 2,098 grants were received. The figure is further projected to go up in 2017 (Challenged Athletes Foundation, 2016). Adaptive sport equipment expenses 4 Based on the number of grants in 2016, adaptive sport equipment expenses accounted for at least 31% of the total grants (Challenged Athletes Foundation, 2016). The distribution of these expenses per equipment is tabulated and presented in a chart as shown below. Table 1: Distribution of expense per equipment Equipment Number of Grants All-Court Wheelchairs 27 Basketball Wheelchairs 183 Bicycles 17 Handcycles 115 Hockey Sleds 26 Monoskis 6 Prosthetics 89 Rugby Wheelchairs 39 Racing Wheelchairs 9 Racing Wheels 11 Sport Equipment 100 WCMX Wheelchairs 10 This distribution is illustrated graphically as follows: Figure 2: Grants per sport equipment 5 Grant distribution by age and Gender The distribution of grants in CAF depends on various factors including age and gender. Male athletes received 70% of the grants compared to 30% that went to female athlete. In terms of age, the youngest recipient of the grants was 3 years old while the oldest was 72. On the other hand, 24% of grants went to recipients aged under 18, 43% went to recipients between 18 and 35, 28% to recipients aged 35-55, and only 5% to recipients aged over 55 (Challenged Athletes Foundation, 2016). Figure 3: Distribution of grants by age and gender 6 Grants by sport In terms of the number of grants allocated to the various sports, Wheelchair Basketball too the lead followed by Hand cycling and Beep Baseball. Hiking, Hunting, and Ice Skating received only one grant (Challenged Athletes Foundation, 2016). The distribution of grants per sport is shown in figure 4 below. Figure 4: Grants by sport 7 Contributors and donations Private foundations, corporations, and other funders as well as donors mainly fund CAF. All the partners share the common goal and objective of being committed to better the lives of other people through physical fitness and sports. The CAF staff, volunteers, and funders provide the contributions and denotations. Currently, full-time staff contributors are 24 and 1,500 8 volunteers. The participant fundraisers are 1,996, while the number of donations participants in 2016 was 13,321. Conclusion and Recommendations Challenge Athletes Foundation is currently a very successful foundation owing the various benefits it has to the physically challenged population in the United States. Through the foundation, many physically challenged individuals have found a better reason to live a happy life. The once neglected group of people who are also socially discriminated in many ways are able to participate in fun and professional sports where they can socialize, enhance their physical fitness, and even earning a living (Greenberg, 2014). The foundation receives a meaningful amount of grants that are able to cater for millions of disabled individuals. However, recommendations are needed to correct some issues discovered from the CAF fiscal reports for a better and fair performance. The following are the most useful recommendations: vii. CAF should focus on balancing the number of various grants received. Currently, most grants are offered in the form of wheelchairs. People with other physical challenges tend to be left out. viii. Challenged athletes are not given equal opportunities to compete. Currently, there is no gender balance in terms of the male and female recipients of grants. The foundation need to encourage more females to apply for grants to ensure gender balance. ix. Only a few sports are preferred by participants, which make some sports irrelevant. It is crucial for the management to encourage the participation in all sports. This can be 9 achieved by allocating more resources on the least popular sports to make them more attractive. x. The number of physically challenged individuals is always increasing in the country. As such, CAF should encourage more participants from this group and also advertise for more partnerships with well-wishers. xi. Government support seems to be very little in this organization. The government should support the challenged athletes in competition and life through increased grants to foundations like CAF. In this case, it is important to negotiate with the government for the same reason. xii. The basic tools and equipment that the challenged athletes need for training and competition are not evenly distributed because the grants come in the form of some equipment. CAF can encourage donations and grants in the form of the most ignored equipment or purchase more of such equipment using the donated funds. 10 References Challenged Athletes Foundation. (2016). Dear Jim MacLaren,
Ref: CHALLENGED ATHLETES FOUNDATION BUSINESS PLAN
Attached is analysis and recommendations report of Challenged Athlete Foundation (CAF)
undertaken in order to evaluate the performance of the foundation, identify possible problems
that could be barriers to quality service delivery and make recommendations. The analysis was
done based on data obtained from the CAF Fiscal Report of 2016. The data was readily available
and it was found to be highly reliable to establish any problems from which viable solutions
could be recommended.
CAF is doing quite well by supporting the ever-increasing number of physically challenged
Americans. From the report, it is clear that CAF has indeed increased the number of grants in
order to meet the growing number of individuals who requires these services. In addition to
increasing the number of grants, CAF is doing all it can to ensure excellent utilization of these
funds.
Despite these achievements, there could be some underlying problems that require careful
assessment. A closer look at the analysis report shows large disparities between the number of

males benefiting from these grants compared to their female counterparts. This shows that CAF
could be facing a major problem related to equitable distribution of resources among both
genders. The report shows that 70% of these beneficiaries are male with the rest 30% going to
the females.
Secondly, CAF has allocated some funds to unpopular sports which show under-utilization of
resources. Unless such events are popularized, these funds will not make major impacts as
intended. The other problem which seems to be facing CAF is its inability to focus on wide range
of equipment that supports the needy. The report shows that CAF has in the last one year
received wheelchairs that may not be required anymore at least for now.
From this analysis, I have outlined my recommendations on what CAF should do in order to
come up with a clear and effective framework that will address these problems. These
recommendations will go a long way in streamlining the CAF operations in addition to creating
major benefits to potential beneficiaries. It’s my hope that by implementing these
recommendations, CAF will be able to realize major positive changes that will enhance its
service delivery.
Keep up the good humanitarian work.

Sincerely,
George Foster
