ACID AND BASES LAB ACTIVITY
Objectives:
1. To compare and contrast the hydrogen ion concentration for various acid base solutions
2. To determine what happens when vinegar and baking soda are mixed
3. To use PH indicators to determine the acidity of a solution
4. To test various substances to determine if they are acidic or basic.
Introduction:
The pH scale measure the acidity and how basic a substance is. It ranges from 0 to 14. At the
midpoint, that is when the pH scale indicates 7, it is said to be neutral. When it is less than 7, it
is acidic and when it is greater than 7, it is basic. Because of its logarithmic status, each pH
value that is below 7 is said to be 10 times more acidic than the next value that is higher, and
when it is below 7, it is said to be 10 times more basic than the next value.
We use various properties to different acid and bases. The 3 basic properties are the pH level,
