Description

Frankenstein evokes literary themes that arguably parallel those found in the development of western thinking along several dimensions, including changes or innovations in: social norms, political organization, scientific discovery, and economic production. Using your own critical thinking in conjunction with the Frankenstein text itself and the historical material and/or current debates, write a paper where you develop your own conclusion on the appropriate balance between the benefits of society's pursuit of knowledge ("Light" in Frankenstein) and the potential risks and dangers when that pursuit goes wrong ("Fire" in Frankenstein). Your analysis can take any direction that allows you to present your best writing and deepest analytical thinking.

analysis should be a minimum of 6 pages. Please see the attached pdf to the grading rubric for more detailed information on the specific expectations for this assignment.

Benefits and Risk Dangers of Pursuit of Knowledge in the Society in Relation to
Frankenstein
Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, a novel published in 1818, is popular for the rich ideologies
that it enquires human beings to tackle, the ways that knowledge can be employed for good and
evil purposes, how deprived. Uneducated individuals were treated and viewed, and the impact of
technology on humankind. These questions can be viewed in various dimensions in political
organization, social norms, economic production, and scientific discovery. This paper entails an
analysis of the suitable balance between the advantages of the pursuit of knowledge by the
society, that is, the "light" in Frankenstein, and the possible risks and dangers when that pursuit
goes wrong, like the "fire" in Frankenstein.
Benefits of Pursuing Knowledge in the Society
Victor experiences alienation as he aspires to gain knowledge of the world from his
childhood to his family, society, and scientific work-life (Świętek, 2020). He is portrayed as a
man of science and has the ambition of knowing the world's miracles. In his entire life, he spends
time recreating life in a monster's form though not conscious of its consequences (Shelly, 2017).
He spends his time in the University isolated from society to gain knowledge making his studies.
However, Victor spends most of his remaining life attempting to demolish his creation that he
spent so much time and effort developing.
In pursuit of the "light," Victor assumes a desire for science and begins to educate
himself from an early age as a child in a perfect family (Shelly, 2018). As his father was not
educated nor scientific, he had to struggle to educate himself with an aim to fulfill a thirst for
knowledge. He leaves his town and family to another town for studies, a step that does not have
an impact on his life entirely. In his new life, he lacks any contact with his family members, not

even by letter. His lack of communication with his family is upon his condition. He diverts all
his time and effort to scientific researches in Ingolstadt. By Victor redirecting to scientific
experimentation and education, he is able to gain knowledge on science, which he uses to create
the monster, which is his innovation. Knowledge help people get insights on so many subjects of
the planet. Hence, it helps them get back into society and give back by solving issues such as
climate change, corruption, global warming, pollution, diseases, economic crisis, and other
pandemics. Hence, this helps better the community.
The monster encounters books while watching cottagers in their everyday lives, reading
articles with the aim of making himself more of a "human" (Świętek, 2020). The monster, which
is a scientific study and not borne from a human being, yearns for knowledge on how to be more
human to become more tolerable and understood by human beings in the community. The
monster has ambiguous questions such as what his revolting and enormous physique means, who
or what kind of a person he is, where he came from, and his destinations (Shelly, 2018). These
are similar questions that people, for instance, still ponder as they grow, mature, discover, and
