a dr orders 2 g of med to be placed in 1000 ml of D5W. using a constituted injection that contains 300 mg/2 ml, how many mls should be added to the iv solution?

Follow these steps:

1.  dr orders 2 g per 1000ml.  This means 2000mg per 1000ml.  Which is 2mg per each ml.

Now, 300 mg/2 ml to make equal to 2mg/ml, you need a total of 150 ml.

But you already have 2 ml in the injection, so need to add 150-2 =148 ml to the iv solution

Answer: 148 ml addition to the iv solution
