Cultural competence is the ability of healthcare providers and the healthcare facility to
effectively deliver healthcare services that meets and exceeds the social, linguistic and cultural
demands of patients across culture. Culturally competent healthcare organization and healthcare
system is able to deliver better health outcome and improve the health status of people within a
community (Hollinger-Smith, 2016). In general, cultural competency in healthcare is very vital
since through cultural competence, the healthcare providers are able to provide health service
that are in line with the cultural, social, psychological and linguistic demand of patients. In
general, culturally competent healthcare system is able to improve the quality of healthcare
services provided by the healthcare providers as well as healthcare organization.
Cultural competence is all about individual willingness and actions towards building an
understanding of the various differences that exist as a result of cultural diversity. It is important
for healthcare providers to embrace cultural competence within their practice since cultural
