Learning the Spanish language is like learning and adopting the cultures of the particular
country or city. Spain has known as one of the popular tourist destination in Europe. It occupies
a large portion of Peninsula. Spanish intend to colonize the Americas and obtain the richest of
the New World. Their cultures vary from region to region but still, their traditions remain to
stand out as iconic elements in their country. There are some important things that people should
know about the origin and the evolution of Spain cultures, holiday and celebrations, religions,
customs, notable authors, political figures, historians, artists, the interaction of people and
environment, their cost of living, Spanish mentality, and characteristics ("Spain," 2017).

The Origin and Evolution of their culture
The cultures of Spain came from the different countries that have entered and taken the
country during the Wars that have happened in the times of "Reconquest Period" between 718
and 1942. Their cultures were based on the European cultures, Roman cultures, Iberian cultures,
Moor cultures, and Phoenicians. The Kingdom of Spain is a sovereign state located in Iberian
Peninsula in Southwestern Europe. The mainland is bordered to the South and the East of the
Mediterranean Sea except for a small land boundary with Gibraltar; of the North and Northeast
of France, a mall participates of Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay; and to the West and Northwest
of Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean. Along with France and Morocco, this is one of only three
countries with Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines.
Holiday and Celebrations.
There are some major holidays that Spain has celebrated. Same as the other country,
Spain is also celebrating their special holidays in their country. Their holidays are both valuable

and important to them especially the celebrations of Labor day, New years day, National day of
Spain, and Hispanic day. Spain country is also known as one of the Catholicism countries in
Europe. They have a strong faith in regards (Thyberg, 2012) with Easter, Epiphany, and
Assumption of Mary. People in Spain are could be considered as one of the religious countries in
the world.
The Epiphany Day was celebrated during January 6th. This type of celebration was called
a National holiday (Erichsen, 2017). In this holiday celebration, people in Spain were offering
their Christmas gifts to their loved ones. As part of their celebration, people will leave their shoes
outside of their doors, the night before to be filled with candies, because for them, it symbolizes
a "Wise Men" bringing gifts to the "baby Jesus".
The Hispanic Day is the celebration of the landing day of Christopher Columbus in the
New World. For them, this celebration is one of the important days because it was a part of their
historic event that has happened in their country. Many people, as well as Spain leaders and the
Ruling of Monarch, celebrated together as a big event in this day of Hispanic, in every October
12th.
The Assumption of Mary, this holiday celebration was celebrated on every August 15th.
This is to commemorate the ascension of Virgin Mary to the Heavens. People offered street
processions with the variety of Virgin Mary's image and also they have offered a lot of harmonic
fireworks displays.
The New Years Day, this holiday celebration was celebrated by Spain on every first day
of January. As a part of their tradition, they have eaten 1piece of a grape every month, therefore,
they eat 12 grapes per year.

The Labor day is one of the major holiday celebration in Spain. This was celebrated on
every 1st day of May.
Religion
One of the remarkable things that Spain have, is that having huge Catholic churches.
Spain is one of the countries that Catholicism influence of foreigners in the Philippines (Miguel
Requena, 2014). According to experts, there were 75% of Catholics in Spain, but there were
only 20% people who followed the orders of the Church, they were also the one who conduct
Baptism, Marriage, Blessing, and even killing others.
Customs and Traditions
Spanish customs and traditions have been practiced in Spain for several years until now.
Visiting in Spain is very exciting and enthralling adventure and visitors surely will never forget
about it (Rowling, 2012). They have different customs and traditions when it comes to birthdays,
weddings, baptisms, and deaths celebrations.
Birthday celebrations, when t comes the day of our birthday celebration, cakes, and
several presentations will be present and this was applied by all over the world. But, in Spain
country, the birthday celebration of adults is different from kids birthday celebration. The adult's
birthday celebrant will offer and treat other adults for a drink on his/her birthday.
Weddings, due to many customs and traditions in Spain, wedding traditions will differ in
every region. For instance, here are the few information about the traditions and customs of
Spain during Weddings;

After the proposal of a groom to the bridge's father, he will offer a watch to him.

The dress of the bridge was made from the white traditional that have worn by women in
the part of West. This was made of black lace and silk gowns. On the bridge's hair, there
will be a secured "mantilla lace" that have a fancy comb. But, as mentioned above, this
tradition was varied on every region of Spain.

In many regions in Spain, during weddings, the ceremony will begin through changing of
coins on which these were blessed by the priest that have officiated the wedding.

The wedding rings are exchanged and wore in the right hands.

At the receptions place, there will be a traditional dance presented, this is called
"seguidillas manchegas".
Baptisms, this is one of the important celebrations of Spain. It was held through the rules
of Catholic rites. This is a serious and especial event for that Spanish and Latin American
descent. During the baptism, the infant is required to dress a white christening gown that made of
the Spanish traditional decorations. The Catholic rite of baptism is divided into 4 stages;

Conclusion of the rite
All these stages are symbolizing the process of child's introduction in entering into the church
family.
Dealing with death, this is one of the notable national holidays in Spain, which is called "All
Saints' Day". On this day, the family members will gather together in visiting the grave of their
loved ones. In many regions throughout Spain, they have made a plans for the funeral and burials
