and differentiates the source of the products of one different party from other parties. A
trademark generally refers to service marks and the trademarks. A service mark is a phrase,
symbol, word or design which identifies and differentiates the source of a given service but not a
product. Examples of a trademark include; logos and slogans. Trademark usually does not expire
(Blackett, 2016).
A copyright is a right which protects the original work of authorship which includes
musical, dramatic, artistic, and literary works. An example of the works which need copyright
include novels, songs, poetry, and architecture. Its duration usually varies. A patent is usually a
limited time property right which relates to a discovery and is given by the US patent &
Trademark office for the public disclosure of the discovery. The materials which can be patented
include industrial processes, machines as well as manufactured articles. Its duration usually
depends on the patent type granted.
