The events of 11th September 2001, shock the world, the superpower was under attack
from terrorists. The group terrorist was from an Islamic extremist group known as al-Qaeda.
The group hijacked 4 airlines and about 3,000 people lost their lives. This was an eye opener
for the United States to work on their defense mechanisms.
Effect of the Attack to the Risk Management of an Organisation
During the period of the attack, the disaster recovery plans and technology in the country
was not that strong. The attack prompted the need to have this revised and improved so it
becomes easy for any risk to be identified. The internal systems were upgraded so as to
comply with Patriot Act. Organizations from then saw the importance of being prepared and
carrying out risk management since it helps them to prepare well in advance (Pyszczynski et
al, 2003)
