  1. Adams, Holland & Urban (2014) discuss several specific patient populations in which particular considerations need to be taken into account when considering pharmaceutical interventions. Select two of these (pregnant, lactating, peds, etc.) and indicate what factors the nurse must consider in the pharmaceutical nursing plan.
  1. What do you see as some of the ethical issues related to current genomics/genetics research? Discuss these issues and their impact on healthcare and nursing practice.
  1. Adams, Holland & Urban (2014) state that "although non-Caucasians comprise more than 25% of the U.S. health population, modern clinical pharmacology has been based largely on research and clinical experiences with Caucasians". Discuss some of the concerns and patient safety issues related to this fact.
  1. ANA Standard of Professional Practice for Genetics XIII states that "the genetics nurse integrates research findings into practice". What are specific ways that practicing nurses can achieve this standard of practice?
  1. Discuss how cultural rituals or practices that are preferred by some patients and their families can impact the care the nurses provide to them at the end of life.

Discuss the new legislation addressing the epidemic and the CDC's and other professional group nation-wide education initiatives (include those from Nursing and other Healthcare professional groups). Summarize the CDC's and other professional groups plans/recommendations to address this serious problem. Is there one group of the population (gender, ethnicity, age, and/or geographical locations) that is more affected by this epidemic and why?

Herbal medications
Using herbal medications raises some safety issues to the patient, many pharmacists label
them as natural and contain no toxins, and these may lead to consumption as food rather than
drug hence causing unwarranted effects. The herbal medicine has side effects in which most of
the cases they are not researched on, the use should be dosed to avoid such effects on the
patients. The toxicity of these medicines can be grouped as internal toxicity that is brought by
overdosing, the external toxicity that is brought by contamination of the products, the wrong
indication on the herbal medicine and the Herb-drug interactions. There is also very little basic
research on these herbal medicines (Al-Ghamdi, 2016).
Patient populations in pharmaceutical
Different considerations have to be taken into account while dealing with special patients
populations. In pregnant mothers, the nurse should consider the effects of the drug on both the
fetus and the mother (Adams et al, 2014). The drugs that are bound to plasma proteins, soluble in
water, or ionized are less expected to go through the placenta. The nurses must analyze the
therapeutic advantages over the harms. In lactating mothers, most drugs have been found to be
passed into the breast milk; however, most of them have no harm to the child. The nurse should
take into consideration the dosage of the drugs; they should also use the drugs having a short
half-life (Adams et al, 2014). Administration of the drugs should be considered and done when
the infant is sleeping or not breastfeeding.
Ethical issues related to current genomics/genetics research
Nurses in the care are mandatory, and as a result, they have to take part fully in genomicbased and genetic-based undertakings like running the gene-based rehabilitations, gathering
