Social work involved in evaluation and research should present written and
voluntary informed consent for all involved participants. The consent should be
presented at an appropriate time. It should contain any deprivation, refusal, or
penalty measures intended for the participants when they decide not to participate
in the research. The consent should also cover the dignity, privacy, and well-being
of all participants. The social workers must present informed consents in research,
including duration, extent, and nature of the intended participation measures.
Moreover, it must disclose any benefits or risks involved in the research.
Social workers must design and conduct research that uses consent procedures
like archival research and naturalistic observations. A comprehensive and
responsible assessment of the research must be determined that it is justified due
to its potential scientific, educational, or applied value unless comparably
effective alternative processes do not entail a waiver of consent.
Social work involved in research should contain documents that state
confidentiality and anonymity of the participants’ data and private information.
Thus, in case there are some limitations in confidentiality, the social workers
involved must inform the participants and provide all measures taken to assure
privacy and anonymity. Moreover, they should provide the time and methods to
destroy the data collected from the research.
