Discussion question 1Discussion: Supporting Health Promotion with Social Support Interventions
Step 1 In your initial post, respond to the following prompts.Share an example when the social-support system of a client made a large effect on the health-promotion behavior of the client.
Describe the effect of social-support systems in health-promotion
interventions and the relationship those social systems have on
health-behavior changes in clients.Explain two methods to assist clients in identifying social-support systems.
Step 2 Read other students' posts and respond to at least two of them.In your response to each of your peers, recommend an additional
method of identifying a social-support system and explain when you would
use this method by giving an example scenario. Use your personal
experience, if it's relevant, to support or debate other students'
posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues professionally
and provide examples to support opinions.Your initial post should be 2-3 paragraphs long and follow the
requirements outlined in the discussion rubric. Please add to the
discussion in your peer responses with informative responses, instead of
posts similar to “great idea! I really agree with you.” The initial
post and the peer responses have different deadlines. Make sure that
your discussion adheres to these deadlines.APA guidelines and plagiarism prevention matter in discussion posts
just like with other scholarly assignments. Cite all references Discussion response 1 PhilethaSocial support systemA social support system is a network of friends and other people,
such as the family that one can turn to in times of crisis or need to
give a positive self-image and a broader focus. The support can take
different forms, including emotional, instrumental, informational, and
appraisal (Mayoclinic staff, 2020) l. For example, a friend of 5 years
decided to work from home to help babysit their twins while the wife
takes some time off to sleep and attend her therapy after she suffered
from post-partum depression. As a result, the wife could sleep well and
eat, thus focusing on their children while relaxed. Also, she healed
faster from the depression due to the emotional and instrumental support
that she got from her husband.Having family and close friends has far-reaching benefits in health
promotion interventions, including enhanced self-esteem, promoting
healthy lifestyle behaviors, promoting lifelong good mental health, and
encouraging adherence to a treatment plan. Also, it improves the ability
to cope with stressful situations, lowers cardiovascular risks such as
blood pressure, and alleviating emotional distress effects (Reblin &
Uchino, 2008). Further, social system support such as advice
suggestions and information, tangible aid and services, expression of
empathy, love, trust, and caring helps people to focus more on their
health and to engage in activities beneficial to their bodies such as
exercises. To identify a social system, a client may use the professionally led
method or the free form method. The professionally-led method includes
taking the step of joining a professional organization which comprises
of people from the same field (University at Buffalo, 2019). In most
cases, friends from the same profession are likely to understand better
if one is stressed about work-related issues and are likely to offer the
best support. On the other hand, the free form method involves engaging
in groups that one believes they fit in and feel that they are getting
maximum support. For example, once one enters into parenthood, they may
choose to associate with other parents (University at Buffalo, 2019).
Also, hobbies and activities may lead to deciding to associate with
others who share the same interest.ReferencesDiscussion response 2 BaleighSocial
support is vital when it comes to managing and healing someone's
health. When the patient has social support there is a marked
improvement in their care and attitude. I have seen the decline of many
patients since the pandemic started and we restricted visitors. Since
lifting the restriction, many patients have started making improvements
and getting on the mend. There seem to be four types of social support,
emotional, instrumental, informational, and appraisal (Social Support,
n.d.). families often offer all forms of these supports but nurses can
as well. There are several different ways for patients to receive social
support. The obvious way is to involve the patient's family and friends
in their care. These people are usually the ones they go home to and
keep supporting them when they get. If the patient does not have any
family or friends, nurses often give their patients the support they
need. We lend a listening ear and cheer and support them when they meet
milestones. No matter where they get their support, it is important for
the patient to have social support.Social Support. (n.d.). Retrieved from Health Behavior and

https://www.med.upenn.edu/hbhe4/part3-ch9-key-cons... Discussion question 2 EHR and the Quality of Nursing
Respond to the following question based on this weeks lesson and, if it's relevant, include your own personal experience How can an EHR positively impact the quality of nursing care? What are potential concerns that EHRs bring to nursing care quality? How can these concerns be addressed?Read other students' posts and respond to at least two of them. Discussion response 1 ElizabethEHR Positively impact the quality of nursing careElectronic medical records has had such a big impact on the quality
of nursing care. EMR help the quality of nursing care decrease the
medication errors. EMR improve quality of care, patient outcomes, and
safety through improved management, reduction in unnecessary
investigations, and improve communication and interactions among primary
care providers, patients, and other team member and providers involved
in the patients care (Manca .D 2015, Do Electronic Medical Records
improve quality care?) EMR have been demonstrated to improve
efficiencies in work flow through reducing the time required to pull
charts, improving access to comprehensive patient data, helping to
manage prescriptions, improving scheduling of patients appointments, and
providing remote access to patients’ charts (Manca .D 2015, Do
Electronic Medical Records improve quality care?).What are potential concerns that EHRs bring to nursing care quality? How can these concerns be addressed?EHRs may cause several unintended consequences, such as increased
medical errors, negative emotions, changes in power structure, and
overdependence on technology. Many healthcare providers depend on the
EHR system (Menachemi, N & Collum,T ,2011 Benefits and drawbacks of
electronic Health records system para 23-25). Potential drawback of
EHRs is the risk of patient privacy violations, which is an increasing
concern for patients due to the increasing amount of health information
exchanged electronically(Menachemi, N & Collum,T ,2011 Benefits and
drawbacks of electronic Health records system para 23-25). Financial
issues, including adoption and implementation costs, ongoing maintenance
costs, loss of revenue associated with temporary loss of productivity,
and declines in revenue, present a disincentive for hospitals and
physicians to adopt and implement an EHR (Menachemi, N & Collum,T
,2011 Benefits and drawbacks of electronic Health records system para
23-25). Theses concerns can be addresses by have a check point system in
place, having healthcare member do training regularly, and having a
person in place to check and make sure systems are not causing errors,
and making sure repairs are done accordingly.References(Manca .D 2015, Do Electronic Medical Records improve quality care?) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4607324Discussion response 2 SarahHow can EHR positively impact the quality of nursing.Electronic Health Record (EHR) is a
longitudinal electronic record of patient health information generated
by one or more encounters in any care delivery setting. Included in this
information are patient demographics, progress notes, problems,
medications, vital signs past medical history immunizations, laboratory
data and radiology reports” (Health Information Management System
Society, 2013) Benefits as a nurse when using EHR systems are the
flexibility of usage, sharing of information between providers and
nurses. Patient previous stay information to compare to re-admission.
Patient safety when caring for multiple patients at a time, being able
to view issues of medication interactions, and possible allergies. Being
able to organize care is a huge benefit because with EHR introduction,
means increase in patient load and ability to care for more critical
patients. What are concerns that EHR bring to nursing care quality how can these concerns be addressed? When increasing patient load, and acuity means more potential for error, reliant to the computer system, sometimes depending on the facility and the charting system it can become tedious and time consuming. I feel like a very big issue especially for this time in everyone’s lives with COVID. More Nurses are taking on more critical patients and relying too much on the system, and not having enough time to critically think. We are taken for granted and overworked a lot, meaning are our patients really getting the care they need? Are we missing things? Is this why we have a higher re-admission rate? We need to bring the patient ratio's down to a functioning level, so nurses can do what they have been rained to do which is, improve patient outcomes, education, critically think and enjoy their jobsDiscussion question 3Health Care Distribution
.Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ posts.Step 1 Read the scenario. While we would like to think that everyone has equal access to health
care, as nurses it is important to consider the reality of how health
care is distributed. Identification of distribution patterns contributes
to an understanding of barriers to accessing health care that include
geographic realities (urban vs. rural) and socio-economic inequities
(insured vs. uninsured).Step 2 Post a response to the discussion board. In your post, address the following prompts:Discuss the meaning of distribution of health care within the health care delivery system.Discuss how the distribution of health care affects access to care.Step 3 Read and respond to two other students' postsRead other students' posts and respond to at least two of them. Use
your personal experience, if it's relevant, to help support or debate
other students' posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the
issues professionally and provide examples to support your opinions.Discussion response 1 AmandaThe health care delivery system is an organization of individuals,
institutions, and resources to provide health care services to meet the
health needs of the target population. People use health-care services
to diagnose, cure, or ameliorate disease or injury; to improve or
maintain function, or to obtain information about their health status
and prognosis ("Factors that affect health-care utilization -
health-care utilization as a proxy in disability determination - NCBI
bookshelf," 2018, Para 2). Many people face obstacles that prohibit or
restrict access to needed health care services, which may increase the
risk of poor health outcomes and health inequalities. Lack of health
insurance, inconvenient or unreliable transportation, and limited
availability of health care resources (physician/nurse shortages) all
play part in how the distribution of health care affects access to
care. ReferencesFactors that affect health-care utilization - health-care utilization as a proxy in disability determination - NCBI bookshelf. (2018, March 1). National Center for Biotechnology Information. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK500097/Discussion response 2 DonnaDiscuss the meaning of distribution of health care within the health care delivery systemRecent and ongoing innovation in systems for delivering and
reimbursement of health care in the United States has broadened
stakeholders’ need for standardized methods to describe, measure,
compare and evaluate delivery system changes. A common taxonomy of
delivery system characteristics would allow for improved communication
and transparency regarding these changes, potentially enhancing the
quality of decisions and care for patients, providers, researchers,
policymakers, payers, and other stakeholders. The comparative
effectiveness of delivery system characteristics is ranked as a top
priority by the Institute of Medicine, which has defined comparative
effectiveness research (CER) as the generation and synthesis of evidence
that compares the benefits and harms of alternative methods to prevent,
diagnose, treat, and monitor a clinical condition or to improve the
delivery of care (Pina et al., 2015). Discuss how the distribution of health care affects access to careAccess to health care impacts one's overall physical, social,
and mental health status and quality of life. Barriers to health
services include high cost of care, inadequate or no insurance coverage,
lack of availability of services, and lack of culturally competent
care. These barriers lead to unmet health needs, delays in receiving
appropriate care, inability to get preventive services, financial
burdens, and preventable hospitalizations (Access to Health Services,
2020). Even as the number of uninsured has been significantly reduced,
millions of Americans still lack coverage. Significant disparities in
access to care by sex, age, race, ethnicity, education, and family
income. These disparities exist with all levels of access to care,
including health and dental insurance, having an ongoing source of care,
and access to primary care. Disparities also exist by geography, as
millions of Americans living in rural areas lack access to primary care
services due to workforce shortages (Access to Health Services, 2020).ReferenceAccess to health services. Access to Health Services | Healthy People 2020.
