1). What was the impact, and who benefitted from the acceleration of Global Contact?
The acceleration of global contact had several impacts. First, it played a significant role
in uniting the world through the Discovery of America and Cape of Good hope passage to the
East Indies. By connecting the most distant parts of the world, it enhanced trade and the
development of industries. Another impact is the discovery of new foods and animals: Europeans
discovered a variety of new foods and animals in the newly discovered America (Logan, 2020).
Acceleration of global contact also led to capitalism through expansion of trade and increased
money supply. It also led to the discovery of new business methods by the Europeans from the
Arabs. Another significant impact of the acceleration of global contact is the explosion of global
population growth attributed to the introduction of new foods crops. It also facilitated exploration
and the migration of millions of people. Europeans settled in Africa and Asia, and many Africans
were forcibly taken to Europe and the Americas through the transatlantic slave trade (Frankema.,
2019). However, acceleration of global contact had some negative impacts such as conflicts and
massacre of natives, especially Indian Americans leading to population decline. Furthermore, the
transfer and introduction of new diseases such as measles and smallpox decimated local
populations (Cusack, 2020). Europeans primarily benefited from the acceleration of global
contact: they discovered new foods and animals, new ways of doing trade, and acquired cheap
labor and resources for their industries.
2). What were some of the major achievements of the Scientific Revolution and the
Enlightenment?
The scientific revolution (1543-1700), which began in Europe in the early modern period,
is hailed as the emergence of modern science that transformed societal views about nature

through the development of sciences and mathematics (Dale, 2017). On the other hand, the
Enlightenment (1985-1815), which was based on the scientific revolution, centered on reason
and scientific method as the source of knowledge and legitimacy. A major impact of the
scientific revolution and the Enlightenment is the displacement of religious beliefs and myths
with scientific reasoning and critical thinking. One of the earliest achievements of the scientific
revolution and the Enlightenment was establishing the principle of investigation. Both periods
emphasized scrutiny and experimentation to challenge previously unquestioned theories and
advance new evidence-based theories (McGrath, 2017). Another major achievement is the
establishment of new methods of experimentation and analyzing data to observe nature's truth
which enabled the utilization of science as a tool for the betterment of humankind through
expansion of knowledge. The scientific revolution and the Enlightenment introduced many
developments in sciences, astronomy, shipbuilding, and navigation towards modern civilization
that considerably enhanced global trade and improvement of living conditions (Allen, 2011).
Another major achievement is political modernization to the west; the enlightenment ideals and
values formed the foundation of the modern democratic values and played a huge role in creating
modern liberal democracies. These two periods were a time of great innovations, inventions, and
publication of many books that resulted in increased literacy and innovation worldwide, which
enhanced global trade and food sustainability. Another significant achievement of the scientific
revolution and the Enlightenment were advances in medicine such as novel vaccines, drugs, and
new medical inventions that significantly reduced mortality rates due to disease and increased
life expectancy. Another significant achievement of the Enlightenment is the ideals of liberty
and religious tolerance. These concepts emphasized human equality and that all people should be
able to act without oppressive restrictions (Ferrone, 2017). These concepts become key

components of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and The Right of Man and are fundamental
human rights aspects.

3). What were the origins of Islam, who were the leaders, achievements and impact?
Islam is a monotheistic religion enforced by the Quaran and considered by its follows as
the verbatim word of Allah (God) and by the teachings and life examples of the Prophet
Muhammad. Although its roots date back further, many scholars believe that Islam originated at
the beginning of the 17th century in Medina and Mecca, in modern-day Saudi Arabia, making it
the world’s youngest major religions (Donner, 2012). Many scholars attribute the foundation of
Islam to the Prophet Muhammad, who unified Saudi Arabia into a single religious’ nation. As a
prophet and God's messenger, Many Muslims believe that Muhammad received revelations from
God, which became the main tenets of the Quran, Islam's central religious text. Other leaders
(Rightly Guided) attributed to the rise and spread of Islam following Prophet Muhammad’s death
are “Abu Bakr (r. 632–634), Umar (r. 634–644), Uthman (r. 644–656), and Ali (r. 656–661).”
According to history, the rise of Islam and its major achievements to global civilizations is based
on the Islamic emphasis on learning. The first significant impact of I...
