Introduction
Organ donation and transplantation has been one of the major achievements of the
modern day medical practice. Today, doctors have come up with techniques and technologies
that they can use to remove a healthy organ from a donor and give it to another person in need.
The entire exercise is so seamless that one would mistake it for a recreation. Traditionally,
individuals with kidney diseases could die because their poorly functioning organ could not be
replaced. Thanks to the great adjustments in the field of medical research and technology, a
person can have his spoilt organs removed and replaced with those that are functioning
optimally. However, in the face of this seemingly real medical advancement, there are a plethora
of ethical concerns that arise from the whole exercise.
Brief History of organ transplantation in America
In 1968, the United States of America formally adopted organ transplantation through
the ratification of the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act. The basis of the law was that all persons are
allowed to donate their organs to those in need willfully. From that time, the general belief is that
any individual is free to contribute such organs to anybody as long as they are in agreement.
Over the years, the federal government has made efforts to streamline the sector and make it
