Introduction
It has been over sixty years since the Supreme Court ruled the Brown vs. Board of
Education case. The court ruled that ‘separate but equal’ has no place in the United States
education system. However, racial equality in the education sector is yet to materialize. Recent
research shows that the education system of the US is separate and unequal. In June 2016, the
Education Department made startling revelations about the issue of racial inequality in education
opportunities. Dubbed the Civil Rights Data Collection, the Department report cited that Latino
and African-American students still lag regarding education opportunities. According to the then
Education Secretary, John King, disparity wears off the moral fabric of the nation. The most
important thing that sets the United States apart from other nations is the concept that
opportunity is universal; however, data on racial inequality is still far short of that ideology. For
this reason, it’s evident that there exists racial inequality in education opportunities.

Public education in the United States has played a crucial role in shaping the society. The
education system has often assumed the role as both enforcers and agents of social, political, and
economic concerns. However, in some instances, the education perspectives of a social challenge
ripple to the entire society. The concept of equality is one aspect that many Americans have had
difficulties coping with it. The policy that ‘all men are created equal’ has been filled with
misinterpretation, adversity, and denial. Rather than promoting racial inequality, the US
education system has played a very critical role in eradicating this issue. Some of the important
