epidemic in the U.S. Opioids are prescribed medically to relieve pain. Abuse of
opioids is a true epidemic in the U.S with 33,091 people dying from opioid
overdose in 2015, almost as many as the people killed by guns (36,132). Of
interest to me was the discussion on the relationship between the use of heroin
and abuse of prescription drugs. According to the article, abuse of prescription
drugs is a gateway to heroin abuse with users opting for heroin as a cheaper
alternative to prescription drugs. The article presented a crude correlation
analysis of heroin use and abuse of prescription drugs; 4 out of 5 new heroin
