CS 1100 – Computer Science and Its Applications Using Data Outside the Current Worksheet How to Get Started To get started, simply open Excel. What to Turn in You must submit your solution to Canvas by the due date. You will be creating a spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel. When you finish the assignment, save the file and upload it to Canvas. You must name the file LastName-FirstName.External-Sources where LastName is your last name and FirstName is your full first name. LastName-FirstName-External-Sources where LastName is your last name and FirstName is your full first name. See Appendix A if you need instructions on how to compress files. Knowledge Needed This assignment involves the following Excel functions and techniques: • Functions:AVERAGE, WORKDAY, TODAY, XLOOKUP, COUNTIFS, STOCKHISTORY, IF, TEXTJOIN • 3D references and Dynamic Formulas You will practice: expressing dependencies between columns and problem solving with spreadsheets. Problem 1 Simple Summary (40 points) The company president has asked for a summary of the company’s performance for the last month. Each region sent in its data and the IT department zipped the data. Download the zip file and extract its contents. There are four files; each is a spreadsheet saved as a CSV (comma separated file). 1. Create an Excel workbook named External-Sources. 2. Import each csv file into External-Sources. Under Data, use Get Data, then From File, and then From Text/CSV. Excel will add each file as a new worksheet. Do not cut and paste the data files into External-Sources. 3. Rename each worksheet to be the same as the corresponding file’s name. E.g., west.csv =⇒ west (worksheet). Keeping track of a portfolio, a basket of stocks, is a common thing investors do. We are going to create a portfolio and calculate its value based on the current prices. We’re also going to want to figure out the percentage of any holding in our portfolio. Create a worksheet named StocksPb2 and complete the following tasks: 1. Enter the Ticker symbol of the stocks listed in Table 1 and use the Stocks datatype provided by Excel to get the Price. The Stocks datatype is under the Data tab as shown in Figure 2. 2. Calculate the portfolio value. The portfolio’s value is simply the sum of each stock’s value, which is price × quantity. 3. Calculate the percentage of holding in the portfolio. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
My attachment was based on print media which is my main point of focus in journalism. I was
placed in the Editorial Board for a 3 month attachment...
Within my study in journalism ,I am interested in print media .It was a great opportunity for me
to do a three month industrial attachment at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation within the
Editorial department. The Industrial attachment was concentrated on news writing and
reporting.
At the beginning of my attachment I had several goals to attain regarding the improvement of
knowledge and skills in general media fields: news writing, editing and reporting.
During my study at KBC several activities have contributed to my achievement. I went three
times in the field to gather news. The objective of this was to understand how to build up a
story and write a script. It also enlightens me on the challenges that media practitioners face
during fieldwork. Some of the challenges are lack of bullet proof outfit, low internet
connections, poor infrastructures and modernization. For instance, during the anti-IEBC demos
in Kibera we had to capture quality footage but due to old technology used, the videos were not
that of high quality.
Next I attended a press release at city hall. At the end of the press release I had to come up with
a story .The press release was spearheaded by the Nairobi Governor Mr. Evans Kidero. The
objective of this press release was to restore order, sanity and enforcement in the city.
In my last and general activity during my industrial attachment at KBC, I was engaged in writing,
editing and reporting news both locals and international news.
In conclusion the industrial attachment was a useful experience. I have found out what my
strengths and weaknesses are. I also gained new skills and met new people that contributed to
my succeful attachment.

At last this industrial attachment has given me new insight and motivation to pursue a career in
print media. Together with all this experience gained during my attachment at KBC I think my
future career can improve a lot.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
This report is a short description of my three month industrial attachment carried out as a news
reporter at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. At the beginning of my attachment I targeted
several goals to achieve by the end of my training. Industrial attachment being the basic way of
learning, experiencing and enhancing my skills, I had an opportunity to see what it feel like to
work in a professional environment. Kenya Broadcasting Corporation being an organization that
I have worked with it has friendly environment to allow learning and the co-workers are also
flexible to assist in my training.
