This person will experience frustrations at work, and he might end up having a bad working
relationship because he has let his internal feelings affect how he should deliver his duties. His
concentration might be lost because his mind might still be attached to the conflicts he had with
his wife the previous day. Such situations are dangerous to a business because employees might
make decisions based on their moods and not on the best interests of an organization (E Cunha et
al., 2018). The impacts are detrimental, for example, reduced productivity, reduced profitability,
and disruption of workplace morale.
This situation can be understood by applying the multiple-shelves theory. This theory
insists that people can be affected by their current surroundings, which can further affect the way
they make decisions and the perceptions they develop about something (Benjamin, 2010). A
good example to understand this theory is about rural people. For instance, these people can be
conservative and traditional, making them resistant to modern technologies because they are not

aware such technologies can cause significant improvements in their lives and activities.
However, urban people will embrace these technologies because they have interacted and been
exposed to them. This theory also reveals that an individual’s beliefs, behaviors, and customs can
