The length of a rectangle is

3 m more than twice the width, and the area of the rectangle is 54 m^2

.Find the dimensions of the rectangle.

Length m

Width m

length=3+2x

width=x

Area = (3+2x)x = 2x^2+3x = 54

2x^2+3x-54=0

2x^2-9x+12x-54=0

x(2x-9)+6(2x-9)=0

(2x-9)(x+6)=0

2x= 9 or x = -6

x= -6 we ignore the negative value

2x=9

x=9/2 =4.5

width =4.5 m

Length = 2*4.5+3 =12 m
