Introduction
Grants are also defined as institutional aid or governmental aid meant to help improve the
lives of the community. Grants are a means of solving issues in the immediate community by the
government without having to be there. They can be handed to individuals or business to serve
different purposes such as construction and employment. In this text, I will discuss different
types of grants, their purpose and their advantages and disadvantages.
Block Grants
The term “block grant” is used to refer to grant programs providing assistance for defined
function. They are issued by the federal government to local or community governments for
functions such as community development. Some of examples of this grants include; Community
Mental Health Block Grants, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Social Services
Block Grants (Grants.gov, n.d).
Some of the advantages of block grants are that they help in improving the well-being of
the people. They can help in the provision of healthcare and other necessary services for the
people. The second advantage is that there is less restriction on the use of the funds. The federal
