Nursing plan of action would be: (I was a nursing student for 3 years, and I have had my own bouts with depression so has my husband, so I know a lot about depression)
1. Talk with patient, see if they are willing to open up about what is bothering them. Determine physical, emotional, psychological needs. Ask if they are willing to speak to a professional.
2. Ask doctor to evaluate patient for suicide or if patient wants to hurt someone else. Doctor can Baker Act patient if doctor feels patient is suicidal. Medication and psychological evaluation follow.
3. Spend time with patient. If they have a physical problem, assist them with self-care (shower, dressing, putting on make-up, combing hair, etc).
4. Listening to music, doing crossword or other puzzles will get the patient engaged. Music therapy does wonders for emotional health. Ask patient what activities they would normally engage in (reading books, watching movies or TV).I answered this one already. Did you see my answer before?
