Advancements in new technologies have had a great impact on communication. Some of the new
technologies include the internet and mobile computing devices that have taken communication
to a new level. With new technologies the quality of communication has been enhanced a great
deal as a click of a button improves efficiency and saves on time. Technology has made access to
information easier and faster through effective and efficient retrieval system.
People play specific roles within a group and tasks and maintenance functions influence group
performance in several ways. In order for a group to accomplish its objectives all the tasks and
maintenance roles need to be executed smartly. Tasks play the following role in a group work
setting initiating ideas, collecting information, making suggestions on ideas and summarizing
through bringing the ideas together. Maintenance function keeps the group together through its
primary activities which are reconciling disagreements within the group set up, giving equal
opportunities to group members, encouraging support and showing understanding through
listening.
There are five different styles to conflict management. First is accommodating which entails
giving the opposing side what it wants in order to restore peace and order especially in an issue
considered minor. The second is avoiding which seeks to put off the conflict more indefinitely by

either ignoring or delaying the conflict. In avoiding style the individual avoiding the conflict
hopes that the problem will resolve on itself. The third is collaborating which involves the
integration of ideas from multiple people. The main idea in collaboration is to find an amicable
