Question description

Assignment 2: Part 2 - Case Study: Basic Cardiac Life Support

As a nurse educator, you are responsible for preparing a clinically-proficient and culturally-competent nursing workforce through nursing education. In addition, you are expected to promote excellence in patient care and safe patient outcomes through patient education.

Motivating learners is the key to achieving learning outcomes. The motivational strategies that you use will help determine the successes or failures of the learning experience. Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation can foster active learning and develop professional expertise in your learners. However, it is important to strike a balance between both approaches.

In the scenario below, you will use emerging technologies to keep learners engaged and interested. Using technology in classrooms, clinics, or community education centers can be an efficient and effective alternative to conventional learning.

You will create an 8-page paper (excluding title page, references, and Appendices) addressing the following items looking through the lens of the Staff Development Educator, the Community Health-Based Educator, or the Academic Nurse Educator (choose only one educator perspective through which to view the scenario).

Scenario: Basic Cardiac Life Support

You are working for a facility that has just purchased a $60,000 simulation mannequin. As you read the instructions, you find out that the modules you need to teach basic cardiac life support (BCLS) were not included in the simulator purchase. You find that the simulator cannot be used to its fullest potential because the interactive EKG and AED modules have not been purchased. You learn from the director of nursing education that there was not enough money in the budget to purchase the entire package. You are told that you must “make do” with what has been purchased to teach a class of 30 leaners of varying ages and diverse backgrounds.

  1. Explain how will you deal with motivational issues in this diverse learning group.
  2. How will you discover intrinsic motivating factors to help the various members of your audience learn the material that you plan to present?
  3. Determine what possible issues related to resistant learners may you encounter.
  4. Assess how will you manage the resistant learner.
  5. What are the possible programs on BCLS support that you can design using this simulation mannequin, despite the limitations imposed on you?
  6. Outline the advantages of using this simulation package to teach BCLS.
  7. Determine the limitations of using a simulation mannequin, which does not have an interactive EKG and AED modules, to teach BCLS.
  8. Plan how can you overcome these limitations.
  9. Construct a method to evaluate your learners with a percentage to pass.

Case Study: Basic Cardiac Life Support

A competent Staff Development Educator is central in achieving global health education
to learners. A nurse educator has the responsibility for preparing a clinically proficient and
traditionally-competent nursing workforce through the nursing education. A Staff Development
Educator should ensure that the health works are equipped with the required knowledge,
experiences, attitudes together with the skills which are essential to offer high-quality healthcare.
There is enough evidence to prove that the health workers such as nurses may not be adequately
prepared to meet the emerging needs of the society trough the adoption of the modern
technologies, for instance, Basic Cardiac Life Support. It is thus imperative that the staff
development educator has what is required to offer support and guidance to establish a
competence-based curriculum for their educational programs to promote excellence in patient
care as well as patient results by patient education. Through the use of the case study provided,
the paper will try to give an analysis of the essential elements and issues any nursing educator
may face while executing their services to the learners. Some of the problems the paper will
address include the motivational issues in learning, the intrinsic motivational factors, the
problems of resistant learning, benefits of using the BCLS technology among other critical
components concerning the education in the case scenario. Typically, the Staff Development
Educator plays a significant role in promoting excellence in patient care as well as patient
outcomes by adequate patient education.
Dealing with motivational issues in this diverse learning group.
Diverse learning group needs diverse teaching strategies. Educational psychology argues
that the motivation of people is a major factor I most learning theories. Staff Development

Educator should develop various strategies which will promote the motivational level of learners
to facilitate efficient learning and understanding of the topic. It is also important to note that the
diverse nature of the learners may need the development and establishment of the strategies that
will facilitate the students’ learning the diverse setting (Nilsson & Stomberg 2008).
Firstly, it would be essential if the educator fine-tunes the learning challenge. It is evident that
learners are always motivated to learn when the activities before them are linked to their level of
skills. As an instructor, I will ensure that the learning is a fashioned exercise to enable the
students to work at the very edge of their abilities and maintain upping the challenges as they
improve. For instance, while teaching the basics and use of the simulation machine which was
purchased by the facility, I will try to match the curricula with the current knowledge of the
students so as the learning should not be boring.
Secondly, I will start with the questions but not responses while teaching the diverse
students. Because the learners may be of majority age, I will minimize the anxiety and too much
think by starting with the various questions ...
