The 3G, 4G, and 5G are the generations of cellular standards. A new generation of
cellular standards appears every tenth year. Each new generation is categorized by new features
such as frequency bands, data rates, and non-backward-compatible transmission technology etc.
The first generation 1G was introduced in 1982, the third generation 3G was introduced in 1998,
the fourth generation 4G was introduced in 2008 and the fifth generation 5G is expected to be
introduce in 2020’s.
3G technology, introduced in 1998, is the third generation of wireless mobile
telecommunication technology. 3G technology was the result of International
Telecommunication Union’s research & development work in 1980’s and it was made available
to the public with the name IMT-2000 and with the communication spectrum from 400 MHz to 3
GHz. The first pre-commercial 3G network (FOMA) was launched in 1998, and the first
