Part#1 Rough Draft
(Please finish the rough draft in 8 hours. After you finish the rough draft i will extent the three more days for you to finish the rest paper.) And i have a paper outline for you.
lease upload your first rough draft of 3 pages. Here's what you should have:
1. An introduction ending with your thesis.
2. A "context" paragraph: If you are doing your paper on social media and privacy, for example, discuss just how many people are on social media. If you are doing film ratings and how unfair they are, the context paragraph would describe what the ratings are and when they were established. Include at least one citation here from a book, magazine, newspaper or scholarly journal. Not only will you add credibility, but you will also "grow" your paper!
3. Your first opposition point. Start it with some variety of "my opponents think..." Want to really grow your paper? Cite one of your opposition sources here to prove that the opposition really thinks this. (This is showing, rather than simply telling.)
4. Rebut the opposition: "But they are wrong, because..." Anywhere you can add a citation will be a place you GROW your paper.
5. Keep going.
#2 Term Paper Assignment(no worry about this part before you finish the Part1)
This semester, as we are learning about the different media, we will be discussing many media-related issues--issues such as the increased fragmentation of the media, privacy issues, the impact of convergence, fake news, censorship, and the increased concentration of media ownership. For this assignment, you will have the opportunity to choose one of these topics—or any others that relate to mass media and society--and make an argument concerning its effects, making sure that you focus on the impact on only one or two branches of the media so that your topic isn’t overly broad. Because writing a term paper can sometimes be overwhelming, we will break this assignment down into smaller components, each with its own deadline. Consult our modules for individual deadlines.

Fake News
Social media is essential for its connectedness, interactivity, and user-generated content.
Social media has become a daily activity in today’s society whereby people rely on it to access
various news, decision-making, and social interaction. In a democracy, social media helps in
shaping people’s minds concerning various political issues. Currently, the most influential and
popular social media tools and networking sites include Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, Tumblr, and
Google. The majority of people also have YouTube channels to share their various ideas and
opinions concerning various issues. The rise of social media has multiple benefits, including
helping in social interaction and keeping people up to date on various political issues. However,
it has contributed to fake news whereby Media outlets can influence people on various political
issues. Additionally, any person can deem themselves a journalist and come up with news that
they consider credible and accurate when it is not. Therefore, fake news is a big threat to the
country and tends to undermine the democratic processes in the political warfare, affects people
confidence and trust in government institutions, and creates confusion, making it difficult to
differentiate between authentic and fabricated information following the increased consumption
of internet.
Fake news spread fast because many people rely on media for various types of
information in today’s society. Therefore, whenever one posts something or writes a story, it will
have reached millions of people globally within a short time. According to Statista, over 3.6
billion people were using social media by 2020 globally, and this number is expected to escalate
to almost 4.41 billion by 2025 (Statista). Factually, social media is taking over, and it has
impacted the news and journalism industries. This means that the internet has become the fastest
and easiest means of getting information and news. As a result, print media is shrinking, and
3
publications rely on social media to post their news (Insegment, 2012). This has contributed to
fake news whereby the mainstream news outlets have their ideas and opinions concerning
various political issues and politicians. Therefore they are biased because they will only spread
positive news about some issues while concealing the negative sides. This creates a different
picture in readers’ and viewers’ minds because they convince them that whatever they are
reading is accurate.
My opponents think that social media plays a huge role in politics and that its advantages
outweigh the disadvantages. They argue that social media helps politicians and political parties
engage with the public, share their views, and spread their campaigns positively (Pew Research
Center). They further insist that the internet helps in revolutionizing and refreshing the political
process. But they are wrong because that is not always the case. The wide use of social media
has contributed to the spread of fake news hence undermining its reliability and credibility. Fake
news has undermined democratic processes, becoming a powerful and sinister force in the media
that instills prejudices and fear in people by threatening fair and free general elections. When the
2016 USA elections were approaching, foreign countries, especially Russia, were involved in
spreading fake news through social media platforms to divide the Americans. They managed to
do this by picking out hot topics that are always trending in the USA, like racism, immigration,
and gun rights, and using these as a weakness towards the United States. They aimed to divide
the Americans during elections by creating fear and fights. Fake news also influences voters. For
instance, when two politicians are vying for a presidential position, the media can tarnish the
reputation and the image of one politician they do not want and “decorate” the politicians of their
choices with praises to influence people to vote for them. During the 2016 election, some media
outlets spread fake news about Hillary Clinton, which made some voters hate her and vote for
4
Trump instead. Trump also used fake news during the 20116 presidential campaigns to disrepute
the investigation into the conspiracy between his campaign and the Russian government (Lee,
2019).
Fake news also causes People...
