Explanation & Answer
Here is the solution of your lab.
Experimental Design:
In order to demonstrate conservation of momentum the design apparatus used is 1
dimensional line with polished surface and different radius spherical balls.
•
What materials would you use?
Polished tables with narrow lanes, different mass spherical balls, flow measuring device for
measuring velocity, weighing machines
•
What would you measure?
Velocity of masses before and after the collision, mass of the spherical balls
•
What results would you expect?
Results expected are momentum of individual balls before and after the collision, total
momentum before collision and momentum after collision. It is expected that total
momentum before and after collision is equal.
•
What if the results were different; what would that indicate?
If the results of total momentum before and after momentum is not equal than and this
difference can not be explained by attenuating factor such as friction or air resistance. Than it
means that the theory of principal of conservation of momentum is incorrect and doesn’t hold
true.
Hypothesis
Salient points of hypotheses of what you think the results of this experiment will be.
•
How will the momentum of the balls change before and after the collision?
The momentum of balls will change in such ...
