Description

Today's most famous Greek building would be the Parthenon, considered by many to be the "perfect temple." The Parthenon represents the culmination of a century-long effort by Greek architects to design a building with ideal proportions. It was decorated with many high and low relief sculptures that reflect the Greek aesthetic vision and political and ideological themes. After the decline of the ancient Greek civilization, the Parthenon has undergone much historical and political turmoil. It became a Roman Catholic church and then a mosque. Furthermore, it once held the Ottomans' ammunition depot. To prevent further damage to the building or to collect antiquities, later people had removed the sculptures from the building.

In this discussion, we will learn the controversy over the Parthenon sculptures located in the British Museum. After reading the given articles to know how the British Earl of Elgin acquired the marble sculptures from the Parthenon and the arguments between Greece and the British Museum, discuss your opinion about the controversy and your position in it.
