Compare some of the traditional methods of policing with the more proactive and advanced modern methods of policing. Be sure to discuss the effectiveness and ineffectiveness of all of the methods. Which ones are better suited for crime prevention.
Traditional models of policing were reactive instead of proactive. What this means is police respond to crime problems after they occur instead of the more modern approach where crime problems are prevented or a comprehensive approach is applied to addressing the crime problem. Modern policing approaches combine the efforts of community members and police when addressing crime problem in a policing approach called the Community Oriented Policing model (COP).
