Hi again. I have finished thes essay. It is attached as a .doc. I have also included an outline of sorts, which is mostly my notes for each section, that I took while I was watching the video. Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions.
Ryan was introduced to alcohol at a very young age. His father was a chronic drinker and
an abusive alcoholic. According to Ryan, his dad was violent and would smack and whop him;
Ryan said he understood that this was his fault. It is no surprise that he turned to alcohol and
drugs when he was in his teens, as children of alcoholics are four times more likely to become an
alcoholic. However, he was twenty-four when he became a full-blown alcoholic, according to his
mother. His father’s death had apparently pushed him over that line. Ryan’s own self-hatred kept
him drinking as he was trying to drown out his thoughts and feelings. These thoughts of selfhatred were probably due to his father’s abuse.
