Chataway et al. (2019) States, Prior research has identified gender as a significant predictor
of crime fear. Women’s participation in the labor market has been on the rise over the last 50
years which has in turn led to the increase in crime rate. The media uses the following narratives
to describe women who commit these crimes: Lack of physical attractiveness, toxic wives, cruel
mothers, evil monsters and dirty manipulators. The process by which the media choose to
represent women who kill, suggests presiding conversations in the deception of popular reaction
to criminal acts of any particular type. This in succession formulates legal retaliations such as
acts. In general, women who have committed murder are somewhat, perceived as an abnormality
of veracious womanhood. They are seen to be either 'evil’' or 'crazy'.

In an overview of reports examined of these women there is identification that alludes to
common themes, such as ‘depressed’, ‘bad’ and ‘crazy’, as well as likelihood to downplay
details that might look into the women's actions. Information about the women's appearance and
sexuality were also highlighted in media reports, drawing keen attention to sensationalized
images. Some examples include: depictions of dissoluteness, vampirism and homo sexual
woman. By contrast, underlying societal issues and root causes are often not inserted.
Lewandowsky et al. (2012), says that in order to correct disinformation, news media have to
repeat it and repeating lies often makes it more difficult to correct them. We can consequently
wind up and say that our capability to make a sober judgment from such crimes in a way that it
helps in the prevention is really overlooked.

False images are untrue pictures displayed in the media, usually trying to propagate some
kind of exaggeration of a particular event. Violent crime rates in the United States are escalating
as law enforcement is de-policing (Wolfe & Nix, 2016). Untrue tales of catastrophic events
spearheaded by the media led to a lot of objection as well as increased brutality among the
citizens that usually have a negative effect on law enforcement. The Europol’s Report coincided
with the UK Parliament Report “Preparing for the Changing World” (UK Parliament 2019)
which raised – in the sections give new directions in management towards cyber security and
upcoming tech- based advancements .The same worries, insisted that false images led to crime
might remarkably influence the law-enforcement grounds and intelligence work. Evidence
proposes that the media’s false reporting may increase on a person’s negative thoughts and also
insight bad acts towards enforcement of law in America.

Question 3
"Beyond Scared Straight," is a peculiar juvenile crime prevention program that is aired in
various prisons across the U.S states. It is an hour long and features a number of teenagers who
get to spend a whole 24 hours in prison. After a month, the teens are asked of any lasting
impressions the show had on them. Some decide to change their tendencies after the episode
while others continue down the road they were previously.

I personally don’t believe the show is effective in reducing crimes committed by
juveniles. This is because the show violates the federal Juvenile Justice & Delinquency
Prevention Act (JJDPA). Even the authorities questioned the development of the show. But, the
Coalition for Juvenile Justice (CJJ) National Chair and President of the New Mexico Council on
Delinquency and Crime, David Schmidt, talked about the show. David said that it started with
good intention but now the show is considered as damaging rather than providing a positive
impact on the youth.
The Beyond Scared show heavily proves the concept of vicarious deterrence. This
basically means that a person, in our case, a teenager, will shun from a bad mannerisms by
remembering the experience of other individuals who did the same. This quite practical to some
grown-ups but cannot be made use with the youth and calls for them to think of their future..
Studies show that kids don’t typically think long term Doctors also claim that most teenagers are
quite spontaneous and short lived in terms of thoughts so they easily forget when it comes to
disciplinary measures to be taken in regards to action in place. After all, “Much of what we know
and think we know comes not from personal experience but from the stories we hear” (Dirikx &
Bulck, 2014)

There is how kids think when it comes to vicarious deterrence. Most of them believe they
will not get caught each time they are thinking about committing a crime. Studies show exactly
what the youth react to is: How fast in terms of longevity the disciplinary action going to take,
how sure it is that the outcome of the action will occur and lastly how serious the punishment is.

The very essence of why some TV programs such as Beyond Scared Straight are aired
doesn’t quite match the expectations of the young people. They don’t imagine of them being
locked up. The show is made by adults for teenagers and as result fail to...
