Description

COMMUNITY NAME AND LOCATION ____LINO Lakes Minnesota____________________________________

A Windshield Survey is a process used to collect data while the observer drives or walks through a community for an observational assessment. The survey provides insight into the community resources by observing components within the community such as safety; mobility concerns as roads, sidewalks, handicapped availability; lighting; or health care facilities. A Windshield Survey is a composite of these data collected through personal observation. The observations assist a public/community health nurse to coordinate health needs of a community. Data obtained are helpful when identifying trends, problems, needs in the community, as well as strengths.

Some of the issues you need to address in the Windshield Survey includes access to health care; social support systems; safety and environmental issues within the community; educational support systems; access to outdoor space; and other physical space issues you may notice. The Guidelines below will help you complete the Windshield Survey Assignment.

Guidelines: Most of your data collected should be placed in charts, graphs, or other pictorial presentations such as tables or figures and placed in an appendix to accompany your written submission. These streamline your written presentation and demonstrate higher level thinking skills. Your written content should focus on interpreting and discussing the data collected.

To complete the Windshield Survey you will be:

  • Picking a SMALL community within your local area (Your instructor will assist you)
  • Completing an assessment
  • Identifying the community health needs/problems/assets based upon your Windshield Survey data.
  • Analyzing your collected data (placed in the Appendix of your written assignment) and interpreting these data in a written narrative.
  • The analysis must include a minimum of three needs and assets, providing a rationale for selection of one need to develop a potential solution strategy for that problem.
  • Providing a potential solution strategy for the identified need.

The follow are the components to include in the Windshield Survey. These should not be limited to the following.

Summary of the Community
The project highlights various aspects of the Bronx community. The Bronx is a
heavily populated area and self-governing walled town of New York State, the United States
of America. The community got various animals. Located in the North of Manhattan, the city
got unique as one of the parts of New York without an island. The community features
multiple sites, including the Bronx zoo and New York botanical garden. The area got named
after a Dutch settler, Broncks, after naming Bronx River (Jay College of Criminal Justice,
2020). Around the 1960s, the community suffered several regressions due to the Bronx
expressway but is currently in a decent developing state.
Borders and Landscape
Bronx town got unique topographic features with elevation relief. The maximum
elevation is 197m with -1m as minimum area elevation. Besides, the community got a
division of natural elements such as rivers. The river divides a flatter section and Hiller
section in east sides and west sides, respectively. The community located north of Queens
and south of Manchester country brings fascinating boundaries (University Neighborhood
Housing Program, n.d.). Still, the state got 280 ft. as the highest elevation point sit with low
lying land on southwestern side and northwest corner.
Climate
The weather, according to the New York office, indicates varying climatic conditions.
Bronx community experiences humidity of 68%, wind speed SW10mph, and the barometer at
1000.3mb. Still, the community got wind-chill and dew point at two degrees Celsius
(National Weather Service, n.d.). The state also features sunny weather conditions. The warm
month experience an average rate of 86 degrees, with 28 degrees representing lower winter
months.

Ecological Quality
The quality of the environment in Bronx state emphasizes the aspects of waste
disposal, water supply, and air pollution.
Waste Discarding
The state got various services responsible for managing waste. The city waste service
aims at serving both Manhattan and Bronx to ensure clean environs for stay. The regular
removal exercises provide for healthy and hygienic environmental conditions using loose bag
pickups, open roll vessels, and rear roll vessels with various yard sizes (City Waste Services,
n.d.). Waste. Other distinct environmental services comprise DEC license, airport waste
quarantine, and hazardous material removal from the surrounding environs.
Water Source
The New York state supplies water to billions of gallons to more than 8million
residents. The state had invested in water provision to cater for tourists, commuters within the
community. The quality of water is high and affordable to residents in the Bronx community.
The state receives clean water from 19 reservoirs with controlled lakes. The state received an
amalgamation of water from various supplies, including Delaware, to increase water quality
to residents. The Bronx has clean and drinking water naturally delivered from reservoir
systems (Blasio & Sapienza, 2018). Some households have access to water through lead
pumping.
Air Contamination
The outdoor air quality in New York State is currently at a better state. The
surrounding environment, including the Bronx, has implemented various strategies to lower
gas emissions, affecting air pollution. Notwithstanding the practical method implemented, the

Bronx and the vast New York populaces still face challenges in quality air. Air pollution
results from fine particulate matter, ground-level ozone (City of New York, 2021). In most
summers, strong sunlight results in significant levels of ground-level ozone
Housing and General Condition
The type of housing policy in New York and the Bronx experienced rapid changes
with increased housing policies. The periods 1980 to 1989 featured increment in housing
accommodation. The year 1996 to 2006 also experienced profound changes in prices, which
created an inability to accommodate individuals from marginalized areas. The state report
indicated an increment of 250% in the housing plan. The economic crisis was among the
factors leading to increment in housing prices. Still, the state experienced a rise in criminal
activities, poverty, and unemployment rates.
Land Use
The vast area of the Bronx population is closely populated, indicating the majority of
individuals living in the state. The state of population distribution can support the transit of a
large number of travelers in the community. The state lacks the proper land use with the
location of mass transit around communities with few people. The state also lacks appropriate
parking spaces due to unsupportive buildings without spaces. Parking in the Bronx got an
issue, especially for visitors.
Industry
The essential employment segments among individuals residing in the Bronx are
social assistance and healthcare-related jobs. The area is estimated to have 146062 people in
the health and social sectors. Still, the state supports close to 67,166 individuals working in
the retail trade. The job opportunity depends upon the area of specialization ad individual
