Writing Good Average Unacceptable After watching this video, I am in complete agreeance that porn stars should wear condoms. Take Cameron Bay for example the star in the video who's life was completely turned upside down by her positive HIV diagnosis. Along with many other people who were tested positive as well after their time in the porn industry. Their approach to testing and condom use has obviously failed to meet standards if people are being diagnosed while in the industry. HIV/AIDS foundations stated the situation could have completely been avoided if condom regulations would have been safely enforced in the porn industry. In the video it is stated how the industry founders denied it, saying they always take safe precautions when it comes to the transmission of STD's. However, they said "all models can request condoms at any given time.” To me, that is a red flag. It should automatically be a regulation or rule that all porn stars wear condoms before any scene. Leaving it up to the model puts them in a difficult position and leads to peer pressure, when it could easily be made a normal routine. The California efforts to pass Proposition 60 making a condom law for the porn industry failed. In fact almost 54% of people voted against it. The real question is, why did it fail? Many performers opposed Prop 60 because they felt it would turn viewers into critics, resulting in lawsuits and harassment. There were many protests which gained support against Prop 60 as well, people holding signs with phrases such as “my body, my choice” and “vote No on condom requirements." They are not wrong, at the end of the day it comes down to your decision and how you want to treat your body. I just believe sometimes people don't fully understand the consequences or ever think HIV is something they would be diagnosed with until it happens to them. Just like the people in the video, you can see the devastation and heartbreak on their face as they now have to deal with a disease for the rest of their life. Abram, Susan. "ELECTION 2016: Prop 60 Condom Law for Porn Industry Fails to Win." LA Daily News. LA Daily News, 09 Nov. 2016. Web. 30 May 2017. . May 30, 2017 First off I really like the idea of requiring porn stars to be tested and wear condoms. This is part of the reason why some people believe prostitution should be legalized. All of this can easily prevent something like HIV, which is so deadly and detrimental. Condoms are a big deal and should be regulated and something that are used right away, not only for people to ask. My opinion I believe that this failed because of the autonomy, or lack thereof. If people are told they have to test or told they have to wear condoms they will feel like they lost their "freedom" when in reality this is a job and with jobs come regulations and restrictions. I believe that testing is a good start, but clearly they need to do something else. I understand that they claim to provide the option and the actors are allowed to ask for a condom or stop whenever, however if condoms where mandatory, there would be no grey area. People are claiming this is making them lose money, when in reality the state is saving money in the health field. I feel like there could be a common ground between mandatory testing and mandatory condoms, as opposed to one or the other. In a quote from Porn Industry Defeats Condom Requirements in California, by Victoria Colliver "Porn stars... argued that the new regulations would actually increase the risk to the performers by resulting in less testing than current industry protocols dictate. They said the rules would violate personal privacy and push the industry underground or out of state" (Colliver, 2016). I found this to be understanding but at the end of the day, the more regulations and precautions the better in this situation. I can understand why there is a fear condoms might lead to less testing, but if you require both what is the problem? Colliver, V. (2016, February 19). to ensure workplace safety for porn actors. The law requiring adult film actors to use condoms in
the shooting of their scenes has been in place since 1992 in California. The law has further been
