CRITICAL THINKING
Title: Hero
Author: Enrique Iglesias

The love song was released in 2001 in the album Escape. In the song, Enrique tries to
express his emotions to a woman by telling her that he can be her hero and that he will stand by
her forever. For him to give his love to the woman that the song is addressed to, Enrique asks her
a number of questions to know whether she feels the same for him. “Would you tremble if I
touched your lips? Would you laugh? Oh, please tell me this. Now would you die for the one you
love?” Enrique also asks himself some questions, (“Am I in too deep? Have I lost my mind?”) so
as to try and figure out if what he is feeling is really love.
Enrique employs several figures of speech to describe how much he will do to his lover.
An example is when he says “I will kiss away the pain”. He also sings that “you can take my
breath away”. By this, he tries to explain that he is deeply in love with the woman.
The setting of the song can be classified as a vocal song as singing is the main event in
the song. The tone in the song can be described as sentimental since the artist expresses his love
emotions throughout the song. When writing an essay about the song, the writer may discuss the
thesis statement; Love is a powerful emotion that one can go to greater lengths to find.
