Students will prepare a written overview of the article, as well as, a description of how the article impacts current methodologies, polices and/or procedures. Article Summary
In the journal article, The Effects of Orton Gillingham Interventions, the researchers
investigate how the adoption of Orton-Gillingham (OG) has impacted learning for a student with
learning disabilities. The article was more focused on students with dyslexia having potential to
world-level reading disabilities. OG interventions and dyslexia regulations are the two major
concepts discussed in the article. The authors define OG interventions as a direct, structured,
diagnostic, prescriptive, multisensory, and explicit strategy to reading for students with reading
disabilities. There are two types of OG interventions: branded Orton-Gillingham interventions
and unbranded Orton-Gillingham interventions (Stevens et al., 2021). Branded OG interventions
are defined as a system of learning grounded on the principles of multisensory, systematic OrtonGillingham's approach to teaching reading. On the other hand, unbranded OG interventions are
defined as approaches based on general OG interventions or principles. This intervention
combines various branded strategies based on OG principles. Dyslexia is explained as all
disorders that involve difficulty in interpreting or learning words, letters, and symbols. However,
this condition does not affect the students' general intelligence.
The adoption of OG intervention in many states was introduced in America when parents'
advocacy teams led a grass-root movement that resulted in the implementation of dyslexiaspecific laws. Currently, these laws are applied throughout the US apart from three states:
Vermont, Idaho, and Hawaii. Although dyslexia laws are formally applied throughout the United
States, most states have reinforced the policy by implementing additional laws (Stevens et al.,
