30. tan ^-1 x is not the same thing as 1/tan x
tan^-1(x) is the inverse tangent of x which is equal to an angle whose tangent is equal to x.

example:

tan α = x
..................getting the inverse tangent of both sides of the equation, we have:
tan^-1 (tan α ) = tan^-1 (x)
α = tan^-1 (x)
