Class activity Negotiation is a discussion between two people or more who are having a problem or Intellectual conflict and trying to work out a solution to their issue. Being good at negotiation is not an easy thing, it needs practice a lot to become a professional in that field. One of the key success factors to have good skills in negotiation is being powerful and confident, and when I say powerful and confident I mean you have to be knowledgeable and know what you want from the person or the people that you negotiate with. During the negotiation class, our lovely professor gave the class an activity and put two people in one group, and let us play the game. This game is about two secret instructions, each player has one, and both of them have to follow their own instruction. There were two dollars in the activity, and we had to split the two dollars according to what the instruction says. The purpose of that activity was to learn how to do negotiation with people, and the person who I had the negotiation with was Muhammad 1. This guy was a good negotiator. He was using an ignoring style with me and he was really good at it. We did not reach any agreement at the first, second, third round, but fortunately in the fourth round we had an agreement. I took too much time until I agreed with him, because he lied to me at the first round. He says “I have to take the whole amount of 2 dollars because the secret instruction asked me to do that, so I did not agree. After that I asked him to see his secret instruction I know that’s against the rules but I have to say it, so I was shocked because it says” you do not have to take anything from the money, try to get as much as you can” then I started not trusting him. Therefore, I learned that building a trust in a negotiation is the very important key that helps to get into the deal faster. learned many things during this activity, and I’m going to address a few of them. One of the good element that I learned from this experience is to be patient with the negotiator. To be honest, I was kind of board during the negotiation because we did not have a deal and it took really long to get that done, so I was about to give up and let Muhammad 1 takes the two dollars. Therefore, we need to use some techniques that could help us to be patient or just used to it. Moreover, using the style of ignoring is really helpful in the negotiantions. So, I’m pretty sure if I have a negotiation in the future and I need to get what I want, I’m definetly going to use this style, because for sure it will work, as well as it worked with the maid in the video that we saw in the class. In general, negotiations and conflicts will last forever, whenever they come one should strive to recognize the cause of the conflict and avoid being rejecting. People live in groups and they keep on conflicting on very many situations. I also think it
is very hard to avoid conflicts since man cannot live alone. We have different opinions towards
different issues meaning that people will keep on disagreeing very much. No one is like another,
and in this way, no one should rule out the possibility of conflicts happening. However, and
learning a lot from The Story of Qiu Ju, approaches of conflict resolution are many. In fact, the
method that a person decides to use such as the case of Qiu Ju determines whether a solution will
be obtained or not. It also affects the time taken to resolve a conflict.
In this drama film, Qiu Ju wants to force everyone into accepting that what she thinks
should be done is the right thing. For example, even after the policeman orders the village chief
to pay 200 yuan to her husband, Qiu Ju believes it is not the right thing and goes ahead to make a
further appeal. Also, she does not stop there since she appeals further to higher levels; she thinks
no one is right and the chief must also apologize for kicking her husband and breaking his rib. As
I watch the film, I come to realize that Qiu Ju is not in a way looking for justice. The story is a
matter of solving a conflict in a way that it can only end if the other person does as I want.
If you watch it closely as well, it is easy to realize that the film is related to the
