Individual Access Project
This is an individual project. You should do your own work and sign the honor code.
Below are the parts of the project:
1. Design on paper a database for a business purpose. Describe the database and its purpose
in a word document. Also – in the word document explain each of the parts of the
database as listed below. I can read your explanations as I look at each part of the
database. For example, explain each query and its purpose in words.
2. Determine the structure of a table with the following properties:
a. 25 records
b. At least 3 numeric or currency fields that can be added, counted, and averaged.
c. At least 2 text fields.
d. Name your database your last name and first initial.
e. Sort the records in ascending order by some criteria.
f. Perform three queries that will be helpful in decision making for your business.
Describe and explain the purpose of each query. These queries should have some
complexity with more than two criteria.
g. Perform a query in which you – total one column, get a count on one column and
average one column (in the same query).
h. Create a form based on the fields you created.
i. Based on the query from g above, prepare a report. The report title and all fields
should be in complete words. The report should have a professional appearance.
Submit on blackboard.

Grey & Georgina, LLC is a small real estate company that serves home sellers in Virginia and
Maryland. As the housing market keeps improving with the prospect of a rising interest rate,
Grey & Georgina is enjoying great business opportunities in 2015. In order to organize and
manage the large amount of data brought by its growing business, G&G has created the attached
Access database titled “Xiong, C.”
(1) Three tables are created to record information respectively on Home Sellers, Homes for
Sale, and Service Payment status. All the records are sorted in ascending order by Seller
ID or Home ID. Detailed fields within and relationships between these tables are
illustrated as follows:
(2) Four queries are created:
1- Homes to Be Sold Query is created to help the management visualize which
homes are not sold yet and which brokers are currently working on the selling of
these homes. As such, relevant brokers will soon be asked to arrange open house for
these unsold homes. The query is sorted in ascending order by Home ID.
2- Average Price of Homes Sold in VA Query shows the average listing and
average sold prices for each home type sold in Virginia. Generally speaking, the
average listing price is usually a little higher than the average sold price. This query
may help the brokers appropriately price the homes to be sold in Virginia in the
current time period. The query is mainly grouped by Home Type and sorted in
descending order by Listing Price.
3- Broker Performance Query is made to show which broker has sold the most
number of homes and has the largest sales volume so far. Based on these two
standards, the management will give the outstanding broker a promotion. From the
query result, Sara Hwuang will be offered the promotion. This query includes a count
of homes sold by each broker, a sum of each broker’s sales volume, and an average of
the commission fees charged by each broker for each transaction they have made. The
query is sorted in descending order by Home ID and Sold Price.
4- Homes Sold by Broker Hwuang Query is created to show in detail the homes
sold by Broker Sara Hwuang. The query is sorted in descending order by Sold Price.
(3) Homes for Sale Form is created based on the Homes for Sale table. This form provides
great convenience when the office secretary types in new data or updates some old data
for the original table.
(4) Broker Performance Report is created based on the 3- Broker Performance Query.
This report is going to be printed out for the management to review during the first
quarter all-hands meeting. It can be predicted from this report that Broker Sara Hwuang
will be offered the promotion.
