The Zero Product
Property states (in algebraic terms, of course!) something that we all
have known for a long time: if the product of two numbers is 0, then at
least one of the factors is 0.
This property may seem
fairly obvious, but it has big implications for how we solve quadratic
equations: it means that if we have a factored polynomial equal to 0, we
can be sure that at least one of the factors is also 0. We can use this
method to identify solutions for the equation.
