Morality and Leadership
Morality and leadership are frequently discussed and researched topics whose tenets help
build more cohesive societies. Leadership is portrayed in diverse platforms, including political,
academic, and social platforms, and it can be expressed differently by each leader. Morality can
be defined as a person’s beliefs regarding right and wrong, and it may often be interchanged with
ethics. Consequently, when the two concepts are combined to form ethical or moral leadership,
the meaning extends to describe a leader whose actions are guided by certain ethical and moral
principles. Over time, research has demonstrated that moral leadership is vital in the twenty-first
century in an organization and public domain and should be integrated to foster positive change
and accountability. Numerous benefits stem from exercising ethical leadership, as will be
illustrated in this paper’s findings. However, some studies have explained that ethical leadership
may have adverse effects, such as encouraging unethical pro-organizational actions from
subordinates. Research also shows that leaders may face several challenges when exercising
ethical guidance that hinders them from leading morally in controversial situations. Whereas

Morality has been explained distinctively through different theories, but its central tenet
lies in defining right and wrong. An action or person is termed moral if they fit a particular set of
