COMM 1008 Walden When Communication Behaviors Cross the Line Discussion
Good communication can be as stimulating as coffee, but bad, unwanted, hostile, or coercive communication interactions can leave you feeling nauseous, vulnerable, angry, and alienated. You want to do a good job, but the incessant jokes that marginalize a group, regardless of whether you are member of that group, contribute to a hostile work environment. Your job is important to you, and you want the promotion, but you are not willing to sacrifice your dignity or sense of self-worth to get ahead. You want to be respected and heard, and yet when communication behaviors cross the line, the opposite holds true. It’s not easy to stand up for yourself and others, to make your voice heard, but this week we consider implicit and explicit messages, overt and subtle cues, and communication behaviors that should be clearly addressed as unacceptable in the workplace. To prepare for this Discussion:Read the Communication Program Discussion Guidelines. Read “Chapter 3, Section 3 Functions in Language and Chapter 4 Nonverbal Communication” in this week’s Learning Resources. Read the article “1 in 3 Women Has Been Sexually Harassed at Work, According to Survey” in this week’s Learning Resources. Think of an example of sexual harassment in the workplace or a work-related setting by a celebrity or a prominent figure that was reported in the media. You can also just share an example of a time when you or someone you know either experienced or witnessed sexual harassment in the workplace or a work-related setting. By Day 4Post by Day 4 a response that addresses the following:Describe an incident of sexual harassment in the workplace or a work-related setting which was perpetrated by someone in power and reported in the media. You can also just share an example of a time when you or someone you know either experienced or witnessed sexual harassment in the workplace or a work-related setting. Provide a brief summary detailing the incident(s), distinguishing what verbal or nonverbal communication crossed the line and what was the outcome of it.Aside from the more overt cues, identify some of the more subtle communication cues (verbal and nonverbal) that were inappropriate in the interaction you described? What can we do as individuals to combat the culture of sexual harassment in our communities?

American govt discussion
Very few would argue with the claim that the President’s role as Commander-in-Chief is the greatest formal power that a president possesses. Yet, in the Constitution, only Congress has the authority to formally “declare war.” Presidents for the last 60-70 years have openly stated that they do not need Congressional authorization to use the military to pursue America’s interests on the global stage. As proof, America has not formally declared war since WWII. So, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq War, Afghanistan, and now Syria have all been military exercises, but not wars in the Constitutional sense.Has the power of the President of the United States as Commander-in-Chief exceeded constitutional boundaries and should those powers be curtailed, given the constant state of war we find ourselves in? Or should the President’s military powers continue to expand to address the growing chaos in our world, despite the Constitution or in congruence with the Constitution? Explain your answer.Your initial discussion postings (250-300 words) should demonstrate an understanding and analysis of the assigned readings and video. It may be helpful to reference the assigned material in your response demonstrating connections between your thoughts and the course resources

Some time later, Exetron Corp. produced an automobile wheel balancer that used a hard-bearing device with a support plate similar to that of the Doneys’ device. Given that the Doneys had not used their device for automobile wheel balancing, does Exetron’s use of a similar device infringe on the Doneys’ patent? Why or why not? Three police officers, including Maria Trevizo, were on patrol in Tucson, Arizona, near a neighborhood associated with the Crips gang, when they pulled over a car with suspended registration. Visible in his jacket pocket was a police scanner, and he said that he had served time in prison for burglary. Trevizo asked him to get out of the car and patted him down “for officer safety.” She found a gun. Johnson was charged in an Arizona state court with illegal possession of a weapon.
